Anyone up for a Sandlot Style baseball?

Anybody interested in sandlot style wood bat baseball? A couple months back I tried to start a 40+ baseball team which did not work out. Much of the feedback I got, especially from my own friends, was that people haven’t played in years (or at all) and didn’t feel confident or comfortable. I also had several people in their 30’s (or younger) say they’d love to play. So I started looking into ways to make that all possible.

That led me to the sandlot revolution movement (https://sandlotrevolution.com).

Basically people are putting together laid back baseball clubs that are welcoming and inclusive to all skill levels. Some are big enough to have multiple teams to play each other, some just have one team that plays other clubs and some just have pickup games or get together to hit and play catch.

I’m trying to put together something like that here on the lakeshore. I’m calling it the Broken Crown Baseball and Social Club. I have no expectations of it being anything more than a social club of people throwing and having bating and fielding practice or scrimmaging if we get enough. Just a way for people to just have fun and hang out. Open to adults of all ages and skill levels. Really the only requirement I have is not being a jerk and being open to helping those who might need help. I’m a bit rusty as it is so we can help each other.

Since my post a few days ago I got in contact with the recreation department of Holland. I’ve been working it out to tentatively use one of the fields at Matt Urban a few times this summer. I’m also under the impression that the field at Schultz Park (and maybe Beery Field) down in Douglas is first come, first serve when it isn’t reserved. So between those options something should be able to be figured out.

Some links which make this seem way more formal than it actually is.

Usage of baseball fields in city parks?

I know that most afternoons/evenings during the week that the baseball fields in the city and Holland and Park township parks have Little League or Adult Softball leagues going on. But what about the days where nothing is going on? Are they open for anyone to use? Is it first come first serve or can I reserve them?

I’ve been trying to get friends together to play for fun but want to make sure we can use them. And I haven’t had much luck having anyone from the recreation departments replying to me.

So I’m just curious
