A bit of a story
Started riding about 2.5 years ago and became religious about it. Season pass at Highland and I went maybe 3-4 times each week, all day. Started with a Bronson. Throughly enjoyed free ride and flow style trails. I enjoy technical but it’s like an IPA, every once in a while. I eventually went all in and had a beautiful Commencal FRS park edition. Unfortunately life hit me very very hard and I had to sell it for protect my life. MTB is the number one thing for myself mental health wise and it’s been almost a year since I had ridden. Short story is divorce is nuclear on your life no matter how good or bad it is. I’ve been working so hard the last few months to rebuild my life and I don’t have very much to work with but I miss riding so so much. I don’t have much of a budget either close to $2000 but that’s what got me my first Bronson. For me to get the $2k I have now was and is very very difficult as opposed to when I could afford my commencal. That being said it limits you. I do however have two contenders after doing some searching.
A 2022 Fury GT, was a demo bike at whistler and has had full tune up recently and in fairly good shape, but a little over budget. Has a few upgrades but for the budget I think it’s a strong option. I’m worried about this being more of a charging/plow race style bike for tech rather than flow
The other option I found was a 2019 Scott Voltage that is essentially brand new. It’s been ridden 10 hours this year with a fresh brake bleed, and I would just service the suspension on my end regardless, but it’s mint. I was under the impression this would be way more appropriate for my style of riding. This one is a few hundred under budget too, so a service alongside still fits my budget.
For perspective Helion and Cats Paw are my all time favorite trails.
At the end of the day with my life circumstances I’m lucky to even be thinking about buying a bike right now but in desperate to get out there this year. Next year I still plan on buying a FRS again.
