I had already spent some time with the demo of Sovereign Tower, and I came away from it genuinely impressed. Now, after moving on to the full version, that first impression has only grown stronger.

Developed by WILD WITS GAMES and published by Curve Games, Sovereign Tower arrived on PC on August 6, 2026. Describing exactly what kind of RPG it is isn’t quite as straightforward as it may seem, though. There is management, strategy, plenty of narrative decision-making, character development, and quests.

Here’s a very intriguing title that just came to my attention, featuring not only a striking visual style but also a highly original concept. As usual, I gathered some details to get a better sense of what Hound Riders has to offer.

Most card builders have you build around what you’ve been given (the cards that are drawn). Hound Riders introduces a new issue; your cards are bullets, and there’s only one way to fire them off in a row in the revolver without ruining all you had going on.

Hound Riders is a roguelite deck-building game being developed by Morganic Games. The game takes place in the scar lands, a devastated frontier where witchcraft, old technology, and gun metal coexist. A hound rider travels through this world looking for information about his own curse. Along the way, he will encounter bandits, corrupted creatures, and many other dangers.

There are plenty of tactical RPGs where movement matters, but Canvas City takes that idea somewhere a little different. Here, getting from one side of the battlefield to the other means grinding rails, hitting ramps, chaining tricks, and trying to look good while you outmaneuver the opposing crew.

Developed by New Zealand studio Disc 2 Games, Canvas City is getting a free Steam demo on August 24, 2026, giving players access to the first half of its opening act. That includes the tutorial, four levels, six playable members of the Fire Starters, and more than two hours of gameplay.

A desperate search for a cure leads straight into a region most sensible travelers have learned to avoid in The Tainted Lands, an upcoming party-based tactical RPG from Arete Games.

The first time I came across this promising RPG was back in June 2025, when I covered it in the 20th episode of Keep an Eye On. Since then, it’s been great to see development moving forward, and while technical details are still scarce, things seem to be progressing very well.

Set in a bleak eldritch fantasy world, the game follows a cursed wanderer assembling an expedition into a mountainous frontier inhabited by monsters, treasure hunters, and forces left buried since an ancient era.

The game is currently being developed for Windows PC and is expected to arrive through Steam Early Access. No release date has been announced.

Here’s something I haven’t done in a while: dig through Xbox Game Pass to check out all the turn-based RPGs and strategy games currently available on the popular subscription service, which I’ve been faithfully paying for despite having very little time to actually play.

The last time I used the service was when Clair Obscur launched, and since then I haven’t checked what’s new or what’s still available for players who share my passion for turn-based games.

Another day, another RPG to spotlight; this time featuring pixel art and animations that caught my eye at first glance. It’s actually a roguelite, to be precise, but it approaches the formula from the perspective of a party-based RPG, and I’ve gathered some information about it below.

Developed by Pixell Games, the upcoming indie RPG Arcane Rift mixes battles, character recruitment, equipment, skills, and procedurally generated adventures inside a colorful 2D pixel-art fantasy world.

Valhalla is supposed to be the final reward for warriors who fall with honor. Forsaken by Valhalla begins with a less fortunate group: fighters who reached the end of their lives only to find the gates closed to them.

Currently in development by Martin Istvanek, Forsaken by Valhalla is a dark turn-based tactical roguelite RPG built around Norse mythology, positional combat, and a party of fallen warriors searching for redemption. The game explores guilt, truth, and the reasons each character was judged unworthy of Valhalla.

Here are all the latest playable releases from the past few days across turn-based RPGs, strategy games, and roguelites.

Personally, I’ve got my eye on the remake of a true strategy classic, which I’m hoping to dive into this weekend if I can carve out an hour for myself. But I’ve also come across several promising demos for dungeon-crawling RPGs, as well as the debut of a very intriguing SRPG that, after a short delay, finally launched this week and has been earning excellent reviews so far, plus plenty more.

Owlcat Games and META Publishing have launched the Isometric Sale 2026, bringing together more than 200 role-playing games, tactical titles, and story-driven adventures across Steam and GOG.

The annual promotion began on August 13 and will remain active until August 19, 2026. Participating games are available with discounts reaching up to 85%, while selected DLC packs and bundles have also received temporary price reductions.

You thought I’d forgotten to check out some Nintendo Switch deals this week, didn’t you? Well, here I am rounding up a few turn-based RPGs available on Nintendo’s handheld console at some seriously rock-bottom prices.

The Nintendo Switch remains particularly well suited to turn-based games, whether they involve working through a lengthy RPG campaign at home or completing a few tactical encounters in handheld mode. Fortunately, the current selection of U.S. Nintendo eShop discounts includes several games that make good use of both styles of play.

It’s one of the games I’ve been most curious about, and Dru Law also added it to its list of most anticipated RPGs of 2026 and after a very slight delay, it has finally made its PC debut. I’m talking about Ledgerbound and its intriguing blend of SRPG mechanics and dating sim. Here are some details about the game and its launch trailer.

What happens when the fate of a fantasy kingdom depends on an insurance adjuster? Ledgerbound has an answer, and apparently it involves turn-based battles, questionable corporate policies, plenty of paperwork, and potentially inappropriate relationships with your coworkers.

In most RPGs, becoming infected by an alien parasite would be a problem to solve. In Stillsun Ark, the game I’m going to show you today, it could be the only reason the stranded cast survives. I just learned about it, and it looks astonishing in its pixel art, so I decided to put all the scarce information available so far together here.

Developed and published by Shinra Software (its name already gives a clear idea of its inspirations and origins), Stillsun Ark is an upcoming pixel-art JRPG that combines traditional turn-based battles with science-fiction survival, psychological storytelling, and a transformation mechanic known as the SHIFT system.

I’d never heard of it until now, even though I’ve always had a soft spot for first-person dungeon-crawling RPGs, one of my favorite genres, whether they’re real-time or turn-based. Luckily, this morning I stumbled across Crypts of Carith through a post on Twitter.

It’s a promising first-person RPG that takes us deep into the crypts of Carith to uncover their secrets. The game is being developed by indie studio EverMoore Studios and recently released a demo that I absolutely loved.

Independent studio STRTL Games has introduced .curator, a new sci-fi detective adventure written by Richard K. Morgan, the author best known for Altered Carbon. The project is currently in development for PC, Mac, and SteamOS/Linux, with its release date still listed as TBA.

Players curious about Starfinder: Afterlight will soon have an opportunity to experience the science-fiction RPG for themselves. Two distinct takes on the deckbuilding RPG are now available together, as Crown Gambit and Gordian Quest have been combined into a new Steam bundle.

Running an interstellar empire usually involves keeping track of countless ships, construction queues, and individual movements.

I’ve picked out 25 RPGs and strategy games this week that are currently available at deep discounts. Some of these deals will run through most of the month, while others will only last a few more days.

It’s not a big sale week for Steam, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at the number of RPGs and strategy games you can get discounted right now. War is tearing Japan apart in Shadow of the Road, and the game’s latest trailer puts the human cost of that conflict front and center. Revealed during Telltale Games’ Choices Matter Festival, the new footage offers a deeper look at the tactical RPG’s alternate-history setting, where the struggle between Shōgun and Emperor is complicated by advanced technology, supernatural forces, and a group of characters caught directly in the middle.
