Star Wars Zero Company: What It Is, What to Expect, and How It Plays

A Star Wars turn-based tactics game is one of those ideas so obvious you assume someone has already made it. Until Star Wars Zero Company, no one had.

It is developed by Bit Reactor, a studio founded by former Firaxis developers, including Creative Director and CEO Greg Foertsch, with a team whose credits run through XCOM: Enemy Unknown, XCOM 2, War of the Chosen, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns. It is made in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and published by Electronic Arts, and it arrives on 27 August 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Below is everything we know about it so far.

30 Indie Turn-Based RPGs and Strategy Games Still Coming in 2026

As promised, here’s the second article covering all the releases that, at least on paper, are still expected before the end of 2026. In the previous article, I highlighted 11 major RPGs set to launch before the end of the year. Today, we’re looking at 30 indie titles that are every bit as worthy of the hype.

Dark Fantasy Tactical RPG The Black Breath Launches Steam Playtest

A deadly corruption is spreading across the Great Blue Peninsula, and players can now test how long their caravan can survive it. Silverland Games has opened the Steam playtest for The Black Breath, a dark fantasy tactical RPG built around grid-based battles, limited resources, narrative decisions, and roguelite progression.

The current version includes the tutorial and the Burning Forest, a procedurally generated region that changes with every run.

Pick up Jagged Alliance 3 for the price of a movie ticket

I don't advertise, I don't work for the publisher, but I cannot recommend this game often enough. It is incredible.

If you haven't picked up JA3 yet, you can currently buy it for the price of a movie ticket. Except that instead of 2 hours munching on a bucket of popcorn, you'll be actively getting rid of the bad guys, playing 30 hours at the very least to beat the main campaign. ;)

11 Major Turn-Based RPGs Expected Before the End of 2026

Today I want to dedicate this list to some of the so-called “major” RPGs and Strategy games we can expect before the end of the year, games for which we have fairly reliable release information, or at least a strong indication of when they’re expected to launch.

You won’t find many indie projects scheduled to arrive before 2027 in this article; for those, you’ll need to wait a few more days for an updated roundup. With that said, let’s take a look at everything coming our way in the weeks ahead, including the return of some famous franchises and much more.

[Playtest] Royal Dices: Tactical RPG, turn-based, multiplayer

Game Title: Royal Dices

Playable Link: https://lom-games.itch.io/royal-dices

Platform: Android / WebGL

Description:
A turn-based tactical RPG for 2 to 7 players. In each turn you pick what to do, attack, move, defend, and hope the dice agree with you. Matches are short, lasting around 10 to 15 minutes. We have been working on this for months and we got to a point where testing among ourselves stopped making sense. We don't really know anymore if it's fun or if we're just used to it. We'd rather hear 'this sucks because X' than nothing at all.

Free to Play Status:

  • Free to play [And will always be]

Android build is currently in closed playtest, if you want to test in that platform, just DM me the email linked to your Play Store account and I'll add you to the tester list.

A roguelike tactics game where you freely explore a hex world instead of following linear runs

Hello everyone,I'm a solo indiedev working on a game that tries to rethink how roguelike tactics games are structured.

The core idea is simple but unusual:

* Instead of following linear, node-based runs, players in our game can:

* Freely explore a hex-based world map

* Decide where to go next without a fixed path

* Engage in tactical turn-based combat on hex grids

* Build up their team and strategy through roguelike progression

I wanted to move away from the feeling of “just going from encounter to encounter in a straight line,” .

Now the game is still in development, and I'm actively shaping it based on feedback. I'm also currently running our first playtest, and anyone is welcome to try it and submit a short questionnaire afterward.

Persona 4 Revival Broadcast Shows Off New Combat Mechanics and Reworked Dungeons

Atlus has shared a 22-minute Persona 4 Revival broadcast, giving a much clearer look at how the remake is changing the original game.

The presentation covered the story, daily life in Inaba, Social Links, dungeon exploration, and combat. Producer Kazuhisa Wada also described the project as a full remake of Persona 4 Golden, with fully voiced Social Links, re-recorded story scenes, new events, rebuilt locations, and rearranged versions of familiar tracks.

Steam Next Fest June 2026 is still underway, and as I promised, following up on my first article dedicated to the event, here’s the second batch of demos I recommend checking out, and, in a way, I’m recommending them to myself as well, since there are still a few I haven’t had the chance to try personally.

DEORUM - where dark fantasy and cosmic horror collide just in time for the grand Divine Festival. Would you play it?

Hi! We're a two-person team from Poland. We've been working for the past few months on DEORUM, a Lovecraftian dungeon crawler. I think it can be interesting to this community, especially with the new addition of the boss visible on the GIF.

We've just updated our demo for the Steam Next Fest. You can give it a try >here<

A few more words about the game:

DEORUM is a dungeon crawler set in a world where dark fantasy and cosmic horror collide just in time for the grand Divine Festival.

Follow the guidance of your mysterious watcher and delve deep into the forsaken labyrinth below. There, fight against deformed horrors and gather even more nightmarish materials. Your task is to craft coins of otherworldly nature. Only in this way will you be able to settle your debt to the eldritch powers at play.

On this journey, you will learn forbidden knowledge and gain dark power, but will you have the courage to live up to the task? Will you forge your destiny and claim what's yours?

I’m making a turn-based tactical RPG where stamina, vision, terrain, and positioning all matter

https://i.redd.it/t6zi4p93ql7h1.gif

https://i.redd.it/fahhto93ql7h1.gif

https://i.redd.it/tz0tep93ql7h1.gif

Hi everyone,

I’m the solo developer of Integrity, a turn-based tactical roguelike RPG focused on stamina management, limited vision, positioning, and terrain control.

The main combat idea is that movement, attacks, and retreating all use the same stamina resource. Because of that, moving into a better position is not free — it directly competes with attacking, defending, or escaping.

Limited vision also plays a major role. Both the player and enemies have restricted sight, so scouting, line of sight, and controlling enemy vision are part of the tactical decision-making.

Terrain can also be destroyed or created during combat. Walls can block attacks, hide units, open sightlines, isolate enemies, or change how enemies approach the fight.

After each battle, you can upgrade skills in a roguelike way. Some upgrades simply improve a skill, while others change how it works and create new tactical options.

Integrity is participating in this Steam Next Fest, and the demo is available now.

Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4306780/Integrity/

I’d be happy to hear what turn-based strategy and tactical RPG players think of this kind of combat system.

I almost threw it all away due to scope creep...now, my first game ever got featured by Japanese press

Hey r/SoloDevelopment,

One year ago I started building Shadowrite on my own: a Voodoo-inspired retro JRPG with the rich lore of West African and Haitian traditions. Last week I announced it. I never expected it woul reach almost 500 wishlists on announce with the majority coming from Japan, and Dengeki Online (one of Japan's largest gaming outlets) picked it up, writing a comprehensive article on the game!

I'm getting DM's and emails left and right from JP gamers and curators I don't even understand without Google Translate handy.

I know 500 isn't a big number compared to bigger launches. But coming from zero following, working a full time job, building solo, it's surreal. The kind of milestone that's hard to celebrate anywhere else because everyone else thinks it's small. I just want my game to reach as many people as possible and don't care at all about the money because I know first games are hard.

A few honest reflections from year 1:

  • Scope creep almost killed it three separate times. Cut so much. Sleeping better since I accepted "good and shipped" over "perfect and never" for the announcement...spent way too long playtesting the gameplay loop, the levels, and just the whole vibe of the game until I decided I needed to put my foot down
  • Marketing on announce mattered more than I expected. Should have started earlier and I'm till figuring it out.
  • Unit tests were SOOOO crucial to this. I know we all gloss over them when we want to move fast, but they made sure that no parts of the game broke when I added new featured. They helped me move fast with confidence
  • Japanese localization was the best decision I made. Most of the 500 wishlists came from Japan. All the time I spent on JP terminology paid for itself in week 1
  • Some of the best parts of the game were improvised or done without much planning, but it was handy to have the big game design doc in mind to make sure I don't veer off into crazy territory!

To everyone else in the grind: keep going. The first week post-announce is brutal emotionally. The numbers feel both too small to celebrate, but realized it's a long way to go to the real launch. For now, just need to get to a public beta / playtest as soon as possible! Reading everyone else's experiences here have inspired me to keep at it.

RPG World of Anterra Shows Its Pixel Art Open World In New Trailer Ahead Of 2026 Launch

My article on World of Anterra dates back to 2022, when indie developer 81monkeys’ charming project was gearing up for what would later become a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Then, as often happens, between the lack of updates and the sheer number of projects I follow, it gradually slipped off my radar and was almost forgotten, until today. The developer just dropped a brand-new trailer, and now the hype is through the roof.
