Past 24 Hours: Drug Users, Kids with Weapons, and Trash Everywhere

I’ve lived on the beach here for a little over three years and while I loved Venice as much as the next person, the past 24 hours here has highlighted the continued decline of this neighborhood and the public safety conditions at the beach. Starting with yesterday afternoon, where I saw a group of homeless people smoking out of glass pipes in front of little kids, and then last night where I saw a group of what looked to be 15-year-old boys running around with what appeared to be a gun by the basketball courts right after all the shooting happened (they were all arrested and thought it was hilarious, I saw it go down). Then this morning while walking along the beach and seeing the prolific amount of trash everywhere and homeless people turning the beach into their living room, I almost stepped on a needle. It’s just sad, really sad that it’s gotten to the this point

Public health issue, public safety issue, pollution issue, the list goes on and on.

Rather than just complaining on Reddit, I just bought a trash picker so if you see me out on the beach, feel free to join in and help make this place a neighborhood we want to be proud of.
