Trying to play the expansions with a friend, but he has to download every map

I just finished HL with a friend, and we wanted to go thru BS and OpFor, but unlike the original game, he has to download each map as we progress, and it's causing him to miss out on some setpieces. It's his first time playing these games, and I wanna let him experience them in properly (or, as properly as one can in Sven, anyway).
I remember I had to do something to enable those expansions in my own game way back when, but I haven't been able to find the exact guide I used, and everything I've tried to replicate my conditions has failed to solve the problem. I'm sure there's gotta be someone else who ran into this problem, anyone know a way to fix this?

Hisense 75A6NV TV has a glitched out stripe

Won this TV in a raffle a few months back, and the screen suddenly started doing this out of nowhere. It boots up normal, but after a couple minutes, this strip of the screen freaks out. A local repair place says that it could be either a defect of the screen (not fixable, no replacement part exists), or the ribbon cable to the screen (fixable), but either way it would cost me 80 bucks just to find out. That's a lot of money to drop on a TV that might be bound for the dumpster, so I was hoping someone here might have a better indication of the state of things. Is it definitively cooked, or should I roll the dice with the repair shop?
