Could not load track? PSA for beginners: Modern tracks require a modern shared folder.
The game shipped with a shared folder inside the tracks directory that contains files used by all of the original Papyrus tracks.
Over the years, track builders added new objects, textures, and other assets. Rather than including those files with every single track, most modern tracks reference an updated shared folder instead. This keeps download sizes much smaller.
Some track makers include everything you need with the download. Others assume you already have their updated shared folder installed. If you don’t, you’ll often get the infamous “Could not load track” error.
If you’re installing a modern track and it won’t load, the stock shared folder that came with NR2003 is often the problem.
One of the most commonly used updated shared folders is the one released by Revamped Reloaded. Dr Noise’s “How to Install NR2003 in 2025” guide, in Part 2, links to the Revamped Reloaded shared folder and additional updated shared files to get you up to date with modern track makers.
Alternatively, here’s the shared folder we use in my league. It combines several of the commonly used shared folders into one and has been compatible with virtually every track we’ve encountered.
Hopefully this saves a few people some frustration. If you’re getting a “Could not load track” error on a modern track, try updating your shared folder before creating a new thread.
