Seeking help with potential Jack B. Yeats – Oil on Board – Found at Essex house clearance
Hi everyone,
My brother-in-law recently picked up this painting at a house clearance in Essex. It is attributed to Jack B. Yeats, and we’re trying to figure out if it’s a genuine original or perhaps a later reproduction.
Specs:
- Artist: Jack B. Yeats (attributed)
- Medium: Oil on board
- Dimensions: 45cm x 65cm
- Back: Plain white board (no visible stamps or labels)
Given Yeats' significance, we know the odds of finding an original in a clearance are slim, but the brushwork and style caught his eye. The board itself is quite plain on the reverse side.
I’ve attached photos of the front, the signature, and the back of the board. Are there specific characteristics of his oil technique or the types of boards he typically used that might help us identify this?
