I'm growing to hate seeing decorated aprons.

They look nice, but every time I see one, I can tell the person wearing them doesn't do any physical work.

For example, I'm a millwork specialist, one of two at the store. We have no part timers or hardsiders, so it falls to us to put away the doors and downstock when needed. Except, I'm the only one actually doing any of that. I'm missing my sales metrics because I'm the one who has to handle doors, wallboards, and moving assembled tool chests and grills.

I have a plain apron. It is often scraped and dirty. He paints his apron every quarter, and it is never marred or scuffed. He gets most of our sales since he stays at the desk, so I have to explain to my manager why I'm falling behind.

He's the main culprit I see almost daily, but some of our cashiers, plumbing associates, and hardware folks also have very nicely decorated aprons that seem to last a very, very long time between needing to be changed.

I dunno. I'm not against allowing folks to have some personality, but I feel like decorating the apron means you are less likely to want to get it dirty, and thus are less likely to do work. Maybe I'm just cranky. Probably that to be honest.
