FWD cars theory
Hi all,
I'm going to give the fwd TCR cars a go soon, but I've never driven a front wheel drive car before. Can people give me some hints as to how you are supposed to drive them?
I'm used to open wheel and GT3s/ prototypes, with & without aero etc. What are the big differences/ things I need to learn to do with a fwd car?
Particular Q's:
Do I need to learn to feather/ 'blip' the brake when I down shift? Conscious about threshold breaking with both most of the braking force and engine breaking going through the front axel - i guess front locking is less common with the engine forcing the wheels round but downshifting can make them break traction??
I assume trail braking is still a key skill? Does this need to be emphasized even more - or is overloading the front tyres a big concern?
How are you supposed to rotate the cars in the corners? Presumably entry is still ok, with the weight on the fronts and light at the back. But you can't use the accelerator to rotate the rear mid corner or on exit, especially combined with the weight transfer & fronts being unloaded on acceleration - what are you supposed to do?
Does a particular TCR drive more like a rwd that any other?
Thanks.
