At what net worth changes your dynamic with work
I’m 29 with a 400k net worth. I don’t own a house. Debt free and assets are a mix of 401k, iRA, brokerage, and savings. Im super grateful for where I’m at and don’t take it lightly. I grew up incredibly poor so being in this spot at almost 30 is something I don’t take for granted and worked incredibly hard for.
I’ve always gone above and beyond. Recently I was passed over for promotion and I’m wondering if I should just push through or if I should stop going above and beyond. I’m worried if I do it’ll make me look bad. I don’t want to jeopardize a good paying job that makes six figures in this market but I am feeling so burnt out. My responsibilities keep growing and leadership depends on me more and more. I use to want to climb the ladder but most execs look miserable.
I’m contemplating just pushing through until I can hit FIRE which is between 2.5-3M. I know I’m a long way from that but it’s also impacted my sleep and stress isn’t good on the body.
Or I’m thinking about just not going above and beyond but be professional about it while I quietly look for an exit. But given the market I’m worried I won’t find anything better that pays as well. I’m worried if I find something less stressful that FIRE is further out of reach.
Lifestyle wise I keep my expenses around 3k a month since I don’t have children.
