Finale through the lens of reviewers…

So obviously a large portion of us have read the reviews for the season when it first dropped… One I read in particular said there was “no Killing Eve” ending which makes me think that Deb won’t die or at least on screen. Based on what the reviews have implied about the ending, can we all take a guess??? I read most of the reviews but anyone have any insight or things that stuck out to them about the ending from the reviews. Everyone drop your theories!!!!

Okay here’s my final episode theory

Okay here is what I’ve been thinking of. The finale is disappointing in a way, but not how we think.

The whole show has been about Deborah’s Legacy- she keeps chasing Late Night, MSG- all of these things that she thinks will make her happy.

I keep thinking of the Fleetwood Mac song “landslide” where the lyric is “I climbed a mountain and I turned around”

I don’t know the order but I see Deb killing at MSG and there’s tons or applause and after, she’s talking to Ava, saying “I thought this would be it”

Ava flips, telling Deborah how hard they’ve worked and it’s for nothing?

Deborah says “it’s not nothing for you, it’s nothing for me”

Deborah takes time away, goes to Paris with Ava etc. and realizes she needs to heal her relationship with DJ and also, her grandson.

When Ava moves out, Deborah gives her permission to adapt “Who’s making dinner?” And gives her a set of salt and pepper shakers. Kinda releasing Ava into the world.

I see the last seen with landslide being played and Deb shows her grandson her salt and pepper shaker collection.

This is all very contrary to what people have been thinking will happen. Maybe this is dumb, but just my idea.

trust the process

There is an early episode where Ava and Deborah are at a bar and Ava talks about the sixers and trust the process, and the bartender comes over and hes like, no they suck it never works, and it was like a 6 panel meme someone made but I can't find it anywhere, does anyone remember and can help! thanks pals!

edit - i realize a day later i meant the part at the end where the bartender is like oh yeah the sixers, and they say did it work did the win a championship and the last box is him being like, no they suck and lose every year, this is insane im sorry!

jimmy & kayla pushing the car to vegas

I was thinking today how Jimmy and Kayla were pushing the car, out of “resources” (fuel/battery for the car/money for the business as well) yet they somehow make it, together.

Hopefully foreshadowing them pushing through together until the end..?

The Devil Wears

I have just watched The Devil Wears Prada 2. I know it’s been said before, but I never really gave it a second thought, the similarities between the two main characters of both, is really noticeable in this movie.
The people pleaser/career girl Andi/Ava. The feisty, hard to work with boss Miranda/Deborah, the right hand man Nigel/ Marcus-Damien.
So yeah, I get it now.

DJ appearing again and a park show??

Also I know this has been confirmed but I also know some people in the fandom weren’t too sure… DJ does appear again and the “D’amazing Race” was just Kaitlin Olsen‘s last time FILMING. This picture confirms it from the season 5 trailer and it looks like she‘s cringing about something that happens onstage… maybe a gala? Theories? Thoughts? Also awhile back a Reddit user posted they were in a park and came across the cast filming what looked like on a small stage with a small crowd… that looks like this scene here that was also in the trailer. Thoughts on these two scenes and LAST thing but thoughts on the elusive scene of Ava crying in the red lighting club?????

Branzino Crashout

I just got to the branzino crashout and honestly, girl? So fucking valid.

I felt so relieved for our girl.

She’s been working her ass off for years. She had to endure discomfort after annoyance after bullshit and no one validated her. Her boss is her bestie—and also her mortal enemy. She has no other friends because of how dedicated to her job she is. Her mom’s a dick but also, you can’t fault her because she doesn’t know better. Her girlfriend dumped her. Our girl was just barely keeping shit together.

I feel her. I feel like we all need a good branzino crashout in 2026.

In fact, if you do have a branzino crashout, don’t feel bad about it. We’re overdue.

I'm feeling really down about the last two episodes and the possibility of character death. At a minimum, the show is, in a way, dying.

On the other hand, I'm so grateful this show exists and I found it.

Let's help each other through the grieving process.

Everyone gets a finale take

I was going to leave this as a comment on someone else’s finale take post but then couldn’t think which of the many would be best so just made my own.

I think one of the reasons it’s hard to predict what the finale will be is that Jean herself said she was taken aback and initially didn’t like the ending before coming around to the idea and now loving it. Like, what are we supposed to do with that? If Jean herself didn’t see it coming initially then how can we guess hence why I think people are throwing out ideas around a dramatic death (either onstage or off, explicit or only hinted at) and corporate shenanigans (Lipka somehow finding space in the budget to purchase thousands of tickets out of spite).

Obviously the writers could really throw a curve ball but as someone who has watched and loved the show I’d say a death just doesn’t feel like a good or appropriate ending.

There is like a 40-year age gap in what is the closest and most consequential relationship for our two protagonists - we already know that death is going to play a huge part in defining their relationship going forward. We don’t need knocked over the head with that fact by either seeing Deborah die or find out she is terminally ill.

I feel like all the signals this season seem to be prompting both characters to face up to the reality of such a close age gap friendship and to accept it and come to terms with what it means to be close to someone of a different generation with different ideas around success and legacy and what it means to make a difference in the world.

I think they’ll go on a trip. Talk about the future. Set up the Diva and set up Ava on her new show and then that’ll be it. No big fireworks. No massive fall out or dramatic event. Just two friends who have mostly up until now on some level pretended to themselves that they’ll be together for the next 20 or 30 years realising that, no, they won’t. Maybe 10 years if they’re lucky and even then with a lot of changes that they need to accept about the realities of ageing.

So, yeah, maybe a little grim but also just real. And human. So maybe also a little hopeful in its own way.

Finale Take

I feel like a lot of talk has been going on about the finale. But I do have a sorta realistic take on the finale that fits into the vibe of the show. I don't think there is going to be some major swerve like Deborah announcing a terminal illness/her retirement at MSG. I also don't think they're gonna do something like Bob Lipka buying up all the MSG tickets. That one doesn't really make sense since there isn't a real motivation to do it since public perception is already against Deborah and it'll be an uphill battle to clear her name.

I think the show is just gonna be okay. It won't be some groundbreaking show like her special in S2 where she becomes a major name again. It'll be a crowning moment on her career for selling out MSG in 10 minutes, but Deborah will still feel that pit in her gut that her legacy isn't secure. I think the finale will be her and Ava on vacation and dealing with that feeling post-MSG.

Ultimately, I think it'll end up being Deborah realizing she can't turn everything into a joke, she actually needs to open herself up and accept her flaws. It won't be some big thing or a feeling of true finality. It'll be Deborah picking herself up and getting back to work on completing the Diva project and deciding to write her memoir with Ava's help from afar as she moves onto the Who's Making Dinner reboot.

Deb’s net worth confirmed!

not that it needed much confirming since most people agreed she’s NOT a billionaire on my previous post.

But it’s nice that this question got answered before the show ends. Thank you writers :)

Deborah Vance should take over for Stephen Colbert

Think of the stories she'd have for the Ed Sullivan theater.

Note: I'm just sad y'all. My favorite late night show and favorite tv show are ending
