Client wants half a terabyte of footage uploaded to Google Drive

I recently wrapped up a shoot with a client. In my initial contract with them, I offered all of the raw footage filmed delivered via hard drive.

I shipped the hard drive, but a month later, they're now asking me to upload everything to Google Drive. I explained to them that we have hundreds of 4K 10-bit shots and that uploading and downloading would be a multi-day endeavor.

I offered to send another hard drive, but they're insisting on a Google Drive now.

My upload speed is basically capped at 20mbps, and bulk uploading to Google Drive never goes well.

How do I navigate this? What's my overage?

You think you saw signs?

I’ve been seeing lots of “I’m seeing signs” posts pop up, so I’m gonna share an experience I had last year.

The night before a flight, I was a bit nervous. I had a dream of my late grandparents hugging me. Weird.

The morning of, I opened my phone, and the first thing I see is footage of Air India 171.

I check my plane: I’m flying the exact same model. Great.

I hop on an Uber, and he’s playing “There You’ll Be” from Faith Hill, randomly. In fact, the whole playlist is some weird “goodbye” playlist.

I start feeling nervous, so I chat up my Uber driver. I asked him about his life, and he tells me he used to serve overseas. I tell him I’m flying today and goes “I wouldn’t get on a plane right now! But I’ll pray for you!”

Jesus Christ. My heart is pounding at this point.

A billboard that says “You will meet God” as another “see you in heaven” song plays.

Everything becomes a “sign” confirmation.

Suddenly, it starts to rain hard. Our fight is delayed due to unexpected weather.

I open up my phone. Air India is basically my entire algorithm. Fantastic.

I’m shaking as I get on the plane.

But then, the most amazing thing happens.

Our pilot gets on the intercom and goes, “Good morning, folks. We apologize for the delay this morning. But for the next six and a half hours, all 274 of you are the most important people in my life.”

It was needed, and I could feel a collective sigh in the plane.

The signs are in your head. Get on the plane.

Mobile notary near Westchester/LMU area?

Hi all,

I’m looking for a mobile notary available Tuesday afternoon to come to Westchester. I have two legal documents that need notarization, with two signatures on each.

Does anyone have a recommendation for someone around there?

Original I'm working on... is my singing acceptable enough for a demo?

Hey all, I'm much more of a songwriter than singer.

I have some original songs I really want to upload to my socials, but I keep worrying my voice just isn't acceptable enough for a demo. I don't mean it in the "I hate my voice" aversion we all have.

I just mean objectively, I know I'm not Josh Groban and that's fine. I'm nasally, it's all good.

I guess my question is: is my voice acceptable enough that I won't be laughed off Instagram posting my demos? Disclosing that the intention is for this to be sung by a pro?

Or is the tone bad enough that I shouldn't even post, and hire a singer for the demos?

Option 1 (Heady voice): https://voca.ro/1bXjbHODcKfi

Option 2 (Fuller voice): https://voca.ro/1b2Ak1J4hLie

Any honest tips, thoughts, feedback would be appreciated.

Hikes with an epic view?

Born and raised in Pasadena and keep being told I’m missing out on a whole slate of incredible hikes.

I’ve done the LA usuals like Wisdom Tree and Runyon and Elysian.

But what are the hikes in either ANF or the Santa Monica mountains that payoff with a big view?

Moderate is fine, I did a few trails at Yosemite without issue. Long as it’s safe and solo friendly.

TIA

ETA: amazing answers so far. Thank you all so much!

Budget breakdown of a $50,000 feature?

I'm working on a feature film that has absolutely minimal locations, and just a few cast members.

Even with free locations, using your own gear, deferred pay for actors, friends cook lunch for cheap, skeleton crews, can someone help me understand how people make a $50,000 feature on budget?

What's the stuff I'm missing? Are there breakdowns online of successful 50k features?

[Paid Request] Lead + chord sheet for original demo ($35)

I’m looking for someone to make a clean chart from a original demo for a musical I'm very early in developing.

The song loops the same 4 chords throughout. I have a demo with one lead vocal, and I’d like a standard lead sheet with melody, lyrics, and chords.

This does not need to be a full piano-vocal arrangement or orchestration. I’m mainly looking for a readable development chart that singers could use.

I have a budget of about $30-40.

I can send a private working link to the demo and lyrics. Happy to pay promptly through PayPal/Venmo once completed.

Please comment or DM if interested, ideally with a sample of transcription/arranging work.

Working on a musical EP… how to go from sketch to song on a budget?

I’m a songwriter working on a concept EP for a musical. I know my way around a piano/guitar, and have the melody and lyrics for several songs.

My problem is, I can craft a catchy tune, but I’m simply not great at orchestrating and producing.

I’m resisting the urge to go down the route of Musiversal, but I just don’t have thousands of dollars to pay an orchestrator to piece together the whole thing.

What do folks recommend? How can I find the right producer to bring the instruments to this project without breaking the bank?

Advice for opening 2 Southwest cards

I’m a regular Chase user but am hoping to go for the Companion Pass. I was approved for the Southwest Plus card on 5/27.

What’s the soonest I can apply for another card? It should be a business card right? Which is the easiest to get approved for.

I know there’s 2/30 with Chase but heard you should still limit velocity in general.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Inheriting $2M… should I buy a house cash?

Hi all. I’ve been saving towards FIRE for about 7 years now. I lost a very close family member and am surprised to learn I’ll be inheriting $2M in cash.

I’ve read the Windfall wiki many times over.

I am 35. 300k NW in the usual boring stuff. Spouse has 200k NW and makes a very stable 150k. Neither of us have debts. Spouse wants to keep working.

I freelance, but income has been a good amount lower than usual. My sector is unfortunately succumbing to AI, so I’ve been trying to gauge the best way to retire off this inheritance.

We live in a VHCOL area and have been dragging our feet on buying a house. They’re 900k-1.2M for a 3-bd. Interest rates are 6-6.25%. The concept of a mortgage stresses me out in my dwindling freelance, and it got me wondering if it might be worth using this inheritance to basically pay off a house and never worry about a mortgage again.

Her parents want to help with about 100k for a down payment. Spouse will put 100k. Would it be insane for me to essentially put $800k and buy something outright?

That would set me at about 1.5M liquid and a paid-off house.

I would continue freelancing but at least wouldn’t have to be so stressed about income against a mortgage. I know there’s all the other stuff that goes into a house, but still.

Is this an insane idea? Other ideas? This would be our long-term home.

ETA: Lots of great advice here, but many people are making judgments about my marriage based on a single post. Many couples keep finances separate. We split rent, but she's paid more of the bills since she has always made substantially more than I have. Many young couples in our area have a sort of "hybrid" joint finances, so I'd appreciate it folks could cool it with the judgment.

On-camera mic to replace my VideoMic Pro?

I've been using the Rode VideoMic Pro for run-and-gun work for the better half of a decade, and I think it might be time to start looking for my next upgrade.

What's everyone's favorite on-camera mic these days? What's the hot new toy?

Is Lexar still unreliable, or have they recovered?

I'm looking for an affordable V60 card. I remember I had two Lexar cards that I regularly shot with 5 years ago, but one completely failed on me in the middle of a shoot, and apparently I was far from the first person to experience this.

If anyone has experiences (over many years) I'd love to hear them.

Or other recommendations on reliable, budget-friendly V60 cards.

Photo scanning help wanted (on-site)

I'm looking for someone with some kind of high-speed photo scanner to digitize several boxes of my late grandfather's photos.

Some are loose, some are in albums. The album photos need to be removed, scanned, and put back where they were.

I'd estimate 10–20 hours of work depending on your setup and pace.

Pay: $25/hour.

Requirements: scans at 300 dpi minimum, delivered as organized files on a USB drive or shared cloud folder.

DM me with what scanner you use and your availability.

We would request that you come to our place in Anthem.

How are these photos achieved?

More and more of my clients have been asking for these types of nostalgiacore-type photos.

I’ve been shooting/editing for 15+ years for a living and somehow can’t quite figure out exactly how to get these types of looks.

Any camera or LR tips? Do I need to bite the bullet and buy one of those trendy apps?

Chase reduced velocity... is 2/30 still a go?

Under 5/24. I opened a SW Plus card 2 weeks ago.

I want to open up a second SW card soon. Am I still safe to open 2 Chase cards in 30 days?

If not, what if I try for a SW Premier Business Card?

Or does the 2/30 not matter if you mix?

Any DPs or advice would be appreciated.

Driving from Key West to Miami on a Saturday: yay or nay?

Non-Floridian here, taking my first trip to Key West next month. From there, I'm considering renting a car and driving to Miami afterwards instead of just flying, as I've read it's an amazing road trip with lots of cool nature and snorkeling stops.

But I've also heard the drive can be brutal on Saturdays in the Summer in either direction.

What do folks think? Any insights would be appreciated.
