I have a bmpcc 6k pro and I’m looking for a lens(maybe zoom) or lens set to buy under a budget of $1k max which produces results akin to the images below

Now I don’t want the people who say you gotta care about lighting, set design etc. I know that boys and I’ll be caring much more about those as well, I just need help getting the same kind of image from my camera.

BMPCC 4K Battery life when filming in 1080p vs 4k

Have been looking into getting a BMPCC 4k and was curious if there is a significant difference in battery life when filming in 1080p vs 4k. Also for you guys still filming in 1080p, how does the footage hold up?

Stills from our Fantasy project BLADES of BAVARIA - Bmpcc4K & Voigländer Nokton lens

Last weekend we filmed a medieval fantasy tavern scene with about 20 extras for our work in progress project BLADES of BAVARIA. We did all shots - except one - with candles only. I wrote about the candle-lit appraoch a while ago and personally I am quite happy about the results. With the BMPCC4K on ISO 3200 and the Voigländer Nokton lens, one can film with really low light conditions.

Any experience with USB-C ge.3.2 pen drives for BMPCC 4k?

We are looking at the most versatile storage option to transfer data between shots in our studio. Currently we use an external SanDisk SSD, but I want something that doesn't require a cage and I am a little scared that the weight of the cable and disk puts too much wear and tear on the USB-C connector.

Are there pen drives that fit snugly and do not interfere with the push button for audio in?

Otherwise we'd probably look at fast V60 SD-cards, right?

Pyxis 12k failed 3 times for the last 6 months

I’m writing here to warn all of you, that that this is not a finished, reliable or a professional tool.

I’ve exchanged my unit 3 times in the span of the last six months, incredibly frustrated, down hundreds of dollars for rental equipment I have to use during the Pyxis downtime without any compensation.

BMCC 6K FF vs. Lumix S5IIX. Help me talk myself out of the Blackmagic!

Hey everyone,

I’m facing a major dilemma and could really use some perspective. I currently own the "smaller siblings" of both ecosystems: the BMPCC 4K and the Lumix S9.

My main use case is wedding filmmaking and the occasional documentary.

I absolutely love working with BRAW and the Blackmagic OS/menus. I also think the gyro stabilization is fantastic. Now that Blackmagic finally added DPAF (Dynamic Phase Detection Auto Focus) to the newer lineup, one of my biggest gripes with the platform is solved—though I can't personally vouch for how reliable it is in daily practice yet.

I shot weddings with the BMPCC 4K for years and loved the image. Back then, I operated almost exclusively on a Sirui SVM145 monopod for my shots, so the lack of IBIS on the BMCC 6K FF wouldn't really bother me, as I am used to that workflow anyway.

However, the BMPCC 4K required a full rig, making it way too bulky for spontaneous, private, or run-and-gun shoots. To solve that, I recently picked up the Lumix S9 for personal use.

Before that, I was shooting with the GH6. While it’s an incredibly capable camera, I just never truly bonded with it. I bought the S9 specifically for Full Frame low-light performance and its compact size, but I’m running into a similar issue I had with the GH6: I think I just vastly prefer the Blackmagic color science/Log workflow over V-Log. I can't seem to get warm with it.

To fix this on the Lumix side, I bought a Blackmagic Video Assist 12G 5" to get BRAW out of it. It fixed my color/workflow issue, but that monitor eats batteries like crazy and makes a small setup bulky all over again. Also, even if its BM Color Science, it doesnt seem to 100% fit to my BMPCC4K in comparison ("too clean?"), but maybe thats just me.

The Goal: I want to completely migrate away from Micro Four Thirds (MFT). I don't want to manage two different lens ecosystems anymore. So now I am torn between the BMCC 6K FF (Full Frame) and the Lumix S5IIX.

The Dilemma:

  • With the BMCC 6K FF: I wouldn’t need the Video Assist to get BRAW, which is a huge plus. On the downside, there is no IBIS (but as mentioned, I mostly use a monopod, and gyro stabilization is there). I already own V-mount batteries to power it, and for tiny/discreet casual shoots, I still have the S9.
  • With the Lumix S5IIX: Combined with my Video Assist, I can get BRAW, incredible IBIS, and phase-detect AF. But the setup becomes a bulky monster again, defeating the purpose of a hybrid body.

Logically speaking, almost everything points toward the S5IIX being the smarter, more versatile camera, especially since quite a few reviews mention that the BMCC 6K FF actually struggles a bit in low light, despite being Full Frame. And for weddings, low light (church, reception, dancefloor) is crucial.

I’m also posting this in the Blackmagic forums, so I know that bias exists, but can you guys talk me out of the BMCC 6K FF? Am I missing something, or am I just blinded by my love for the BM workflow?

On the 2nd hand market, it looks like both can be bought for around 1400 bucks.

Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from anyone who has used both or made a similar switch for event/wedding work!

What’s going on with my sensor?

I haven’t used my pocket 6k in a while (about 1 year). It’s been stored properly in a pelican case in my storage unit.

I turned it on today to check something on a lens and much to my surprise everything’s bloomed out.

Anyone ever seen something like this? Is it mold? Moisture?

FYI- I have a speed booster that sits inside so it looks different from stock.

some stills from a recent video I made

Always open to feedback, i was on here a few weeks ago asking for advice on how to build sets with minimal crew and materials, I specifically tried my hand at building a set in the 3rd slide.

This was all shot on the BMPCC 6k -- I mostly shot with a 40mm cinema lens. and the classic cannon 85mm

I have a few other lenses but honestly I need to update my set. and right now is not the time to do that for me financially, so I work with what I've got.

the close up of the eye is a 90mm shot on a Sony camera and color graded to match - that was help from my neighbor who also does some videography.

Any errors thoughts ideas or things to do differently in the future let me know!

BMPCC 4K Intro

Got a gig booked next week that’ll have me using a BMPCC 4K for the first time. I’m not a camera novice, but am definitely out of my wheelhouse with cinema cameras. Hoping to get some recs for YouTube videos that can break down the basics for me, especially with recording settings. My kit is pretty set (sigma 18-35mm lens, monitor, etc), so any tips related to recording using the actual camera would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Down the Bmpcc OG rabbit hole again...

First off, I DO need (want) a second camera for the simple reason that my main bmpcc4k is setup/rigged for studio use and I hate the idea of breaking it down. It takes me forever to set up and get things just right.

What I am realizing is that what I need (want) most out of a second cam is: small and portable.

I'm talking about something I can sit in the corner of a kitchen counter cheap $20 tripod for a quick shot if I wanted to.

I've already been down the rabbit hole, even looking at the og micro cinema cam and the G2. Then there is the Sigma FP which, used, is maybe twice the price of the OG bmpcc used.

Then there's the cameras I know nothing about, but practically fulfill my main requirement: Sony ZV etc. I do want the ability to shoot RAW and at least grade it so it exists in the same universe as my other BRAW.

The budget is around $1k more or less, and while I'm dumb - I'm not stupid enough to think I won't be spending more once I get it.

There are 1000 reasons not to buy the OG, but every time I see the footage from one I get sucked back in. It's not like BM is sponsoring YouTubers to pump an old camera on the second hand marker.

Am I crazy for still wanting it? Or is this just the same dopamine rush we all get when looking for new gear?

Pocket Cinema fans, help me out here!

Hey everyone! I don’t typically look for answers like this but genuinely curious if anyone has good input on this.

I’ve been using 4k, 6k & Ursa’s for many years & primarily use the pockets for all of my work. Everything about the picture coming out of these cameras has me coming back even after trying many others but I haven’t tried everything yet.

What I’m getting at is that I am looking for some type of mirrorless camera with a similar picture quality. I’ve graded other footage & get close sometimes, but the organic quality is always missing. I’ll be keeping the pockets but occasionally need a quicker set up.

I know we all admire these cameras, so I’m curious if you all have other cameras that match well. Let me know!
