How to find apartments/condos for rent?

How does one find private condos for rent or just rental units from small owners? It seems apartments.com focuses on communities. I want to cast a wider net to include condos for rent or houses for rent or just apartments in general held by smaller companies or private owners.

Help: Marina Del Rey vs Mar Vista apartment decision?

We are a bf/gf, 25 year old couple with a dog moving down to LA for the first time… we’ve come down to two options:

Pearl Apartments:
- Marina Del Rey
- after 2 month free promo, 2295 per month.

Mitchell Arms Apartment:
- Mar vista
- after move in credit, 2100 per month

Anyone have thoughts on these apartments/areas and what might be best for us? We love the walkability of Pearl but have seen some negative reviews about Mold… less reviews on Mitchell Arms, but it’s much more suburban and doesn’t offer that walkable beach area.

Thoughts? Help? Need a 3rd party because I like Mar Vista, gf likes Marina Del Rey…

Car in a bad location or live in a better location?

Hi,
I currently live near DTLA and the area is pretty bad. I’m considering moving a bit more west, however, the rent is insane.

My take home is 5.8k a month, however, after paying my EMI, it’s 4.5k.
My job is fully remote.

I have 2 options, I’m not sure which one to go with.

  1. Move to the west side in a studio for up to 2.5k rent (maybe Culver?). Open to suggestions.

  2. Stay where I am (priv bedroom in a 2b2b) and finance a car. Total expense = rent (1.7k) + car payments (~800 including insurance)

Since I wfh, I spend most of my time home, I do go out 2-3 times a week. But would love the freedom of being able to move around that a car offers. Thoughts? I’m open to other options and suggestions

Where should a party of two get a sit-down breakfast before going to the 12pm quarterfinal World Cup game on Friday 7/10 at SoFi?

We live in El Segundo and are seeking a fun and lively pre-game breakfast/brunch experience -- ideally near or in El Segundo or SoFi itself. We are not driving to the stadium (taking K line/shuttle). Where should be go?

Best place to scan magazines for cheap?

I have a handful of old magazines that I need to scan for archive purposes and I'm looking for the best place to do this. It's about ten magazines, none of them are particularly delicate but ideally they would still be completely intact after the process is done.

I imagine the library is the best location for this, but I'm curious if there are particular libraries that are best set up with equipment for it. I'm located in central hollywood but happy to travel to the best places. What would be the best place?

Where to get a fresh coconut?

Ive been going to the grocery stores around venice and santa monica and they're all spoiled on the shelves(strong smell of blue cheese)? I bought a couple that I thought were fine and they were completely rotted on the inside, and the water smelled like blue cheese. Where can I go that would absolutely have a fresh one?

?Los Angeles Athletic Club

Anyone who recently or current member of Los Angeles Athletic Club (LAAC) in DTLA? If you are, can I ask how much you’re paying for membership?
I’m seriously considering joining but wanted to make sure I don’t overpay. Thanks in advance.

Must do’s for a 2 day trip?

Hi all! My bf & I are gonna be visiting from Pittsburgh in August and will have 2 full days in LA driving from San Diego. We’re struggling with trying to decide what area to base our time in and where to stay! We really wanna make the trip as memorable as possible. We prefer more of the non-touristy kinda stuff but since our trip is so short I wouldn’t mind doing some of the common things. We are big foodies & enjoy some drinks, we also enjoy nature & good views.

One of the things we’ll probably do for sure is Griffith, but that’s all we really have so far. We’ve also obviously been looking at the Venice boardwalk & Santa Monica pier - would those be worth it or is there other better options for a short trip?

Anyways lol - any and all recommendations welcome (especially on what areas of the city to stay in), TIA!!

Most people I know say New York beats LA in terms of food choices and quality. I'm not so sure about that. What do you guys think?

Looking for a machine shop in Hollywood/LA?

This is a niche request, does anyone have info for a machine shop to resurface a cylinder head in LA? preferably in the North East area but I don’t mind driving. Google searches are giving me a bunch of permanently closed shops and disconnected phone lines so I’m hoping for a good recommendation here. Thanks in advance!

How often are people actually being fined for fireworks in LA?

So for a few years now I have seen signs around LA County that illegal fireworks will result in a 1k fine. Yet I always see or rather hear illegal fireworks?

10:57 pm thoughts while trying to drown out the roar from outside.
