DL1439 Diverted

Any idea why flight 1439 from Tampa to Boston was over the New York area and suddenly diverted to Atlanta today

If I could teleport, I would just go to Seattle

So I was flying from Greensboro, NC to Seattle, WA, through Atlanta the other day. I arrived at the airport only to find my flight was delayed. The delay kept getting longer and longer only to lead to what should have been a missed connection in Atlanta.

I was on the phone, both texting customer service agents and speaking with them directly. The first one that I was texting, I thought, might be AI due to the unusual exchange. (Photos show that interaction, it happened at about 530pm)

Later though, one agent i was speaking to offered to change my flight from Minneapolis, not fly from Greensboro to Minneapolis, just change it to a flight that departed in an hour and a half from Minneapolis to Seattle.

TLDR: Two separate customer service agents sincerely asked if I could teleport to airports halfway across the country

Getting up while taxiing

Yesterday we we’re leaving Atlanta in some heavy storms and had a ground delay of about an hour. When we lined up in the taxi queue and we were number 36 and while we never shut off our engines, we creeped. About halfway through while we were moving, someone got up to use the bathroom and the flight attendant didn’t say a word. Is this typically allowed? I was surprised. Do they only make people sit once the captain says “flight attendant prepare for departure”?

Flight Cancelled over night

My original flight was supposed to leave out of CAE to ATL to SAT on July 5th at 740pm, but it was rescheduled for today at 1010. Seemingly overnight the flight was cancelled with no notice or reason and pushed back to the 740pm departure. Any advice or information as to what happened? Been on hold for 30 minutes with no answers.

What is the best way to thank a FA?

Short story. My son and I were flying on a short regional jet back home. My wife is the frequent traveler, not us. She decided because I’m relatively tall to use some miles and put us in first class. Love her for so many reasons, and this is but one.

Problem is, we got our tickets super late. About 4 days before travel, so all the seats were taken pretty much throughout. The only seats left there were split. My son is young, and yes, I fully get the whole making people move thing is a massive faux pas. Anyhow, despite knowing I was stepping into jerk mode, we called the diamond line, to no avail. They said check in at the gate, they should be able to help.

I checked with the gate, they said nope, you gotta ask the other passengers. I was fully ready to try, and accept whatever fate had in store (I also helped prep my son that I might be two rows behind him. Not the end of the world by any means and doable on a 1.5 hour flight at his age).

This is where we were rescued. This absolute gem of a FA, upon my ask while boarding second and third, heard me and said, “I got you.” Looked up the manifest, saw the seat in row one was occupied by another solo traveler, and put us together. What every other level of delta couldn’t do (understandably imo given the late booking etc) she got done, in a high pressure situation (she stopped everyone from boarding behind us for a moment) and done in 30 seconds. Honestly it might not have even taken that long.

So, to my title, how do I meaningfully thank her in a way that matters? I was profusely grateful to her, and asked her the same. She was thrilled to hear how happy I was, said that was enough, and offered a high five. Can I do better? I don’t fly nearly enough to know how best to say thanks.

Lounge options for employee CDG

My wife and I travel to Paris for work and she’s always allowed into the AF lounge with me with my status (Platinum, Reserved cardholder). This September, we’re bringing our employee. I know I can use my guest passes in the States, but is there an option for her to get into the lounge at CDG? I asked three different workers and got three different answers.

My bag flew without me

So I woke to this notification from Delta the other day. I appreciate the timeliness and communication from Delta on our bags. Only thing is, I wasn’t anywhere near PHX at the time and haven’t flown there in almost a year. I hope this customer got their bag!

Big thank you to DL0790

First time flying with status (Gold), and the wife and I got upgraded to first on our very first time. They came to our comfort plus seats and asked us to move. At first I was startled but then after they explained, we jumped at the opportunity.

FA’s are amazing. Wishes really do come true with Delta status.

PS- Flying out of ATL so having only Gold made me completely forgo even the chance of an upgrade.

Stormy weather

Why does Delta board a plane when it’s obvious on radar passengers will be sitting on the plane?

Canceled flight, next option tomorrow morning, WWYD?

We are flying home from our honeymoon from Europe to JFK, and then to our home airport.
The flight from Europe to JFK was delayed several times for several reasons (5+ hours) and now the flight from JFK to home has been canceled. So, we will be spending the night around JFK.
We spoke with the flight attendants and the delta chat and it seems the only option is to catch the earliest flight tomorrow morning. We are currently on the flight to JFK.
Our hotel / meal voucher options are to do it on our own and apply for reimbursement or to go to the desks in the airport for vouchers.
We are not frequent travelers, just looking to make the most of this situation and extend the honeymoon in an unconventional way. What do you recommend? Thank you!
edit: add details (currently on the plane, staying in JFK area overnight)

Trading Cards

I’ve been noticing posts on this and have a question: as an adult male is it weird to ask for them? I’d love to pick up a few but have been a little unnerved about asking—thinking maybe it’s for kids. Bonus question: can I get a set of wings, too (okay that part was a joke)

Flying from US to Sweden

Hey everyone, I have a work trip coming up at the end of july. The flight route is ATL-AMS-ARN. Do we have to go threw passport control at AMS before flying to ARN? There aren't many options as good flight times and we only have a 55 min layover in AMS. Any insight would be helpful

RDU: Early morning flight -- what time to arrive?

I'll be on a international trip next weekend departing from RDU.

The first segment is to ATL -- departing RDU at 5:10 am.

The Delta ticket counters open at 4am.

What time should we be at the ticket counter line to make sure we get through the baggage drop off, TSA in time for the flight.

Feeling slightly anxious about this.

8hr International turned 22+ hour nightmare layover

Seeking advice for reimbursement for a flight that has completely turned into a disaster of a layover experience.

What should have been an 8hr international flight from Milan MXP to Atlanta ATL has turned into a long drawn out 20+hr layover in Birmingham BHM.

First the flight was delayed 2 hours at MXP due to maintenance of navigational equipment. Not a problem…I guess?

BUT as we approached ATL to land…we were turned around last minute to fuel up?

20 minutes after circling around ATL waiting for direction, the pilot announces that since there is too much traffic, we can’t land and must go to BHM to fuel up and await further instruction.

When we arrive at BHM around 7pm we are then informed that the staff has reached the end of their shift and we will have to wait for another ‘rescue’ crew to take our plane back to ATL after fueling.

Since the staff must disembark, now we all have to exit the plane and go through customs. Well we landed in BHM where apparently no staff was scheduled to check people in through customs due to the holiday weekend.

Now they have to call on a SINGLE special agent to check every one of 200+ people + crew through customs. This whole operation takes well over 2 hours just to get us through.

10pm People are losing what little patience and faith they have left and are starting to request off this circle jerk of a layover. Delta staff was basically holding passengers captive by not allowing them to take their bags after completing customs when they arrived in BHM.

People are supposed to collect their baggage when they go through customs but no not this flight. Bags are staying on board while everyone waits for a new crew to show up and man the plane. People who want to leave are just supposed to figure out their bags another day I guess?

Around 12am after everyone was corralled back through security screening to access the gate - that the plane they just left is sitting at - we are sitting at the 20 hour mark. People are held with an indefinite boarding time awaiting this rescue crew.

BHM staff passes out snacks to everyone to keep hostility under control. Good on them.

Eventually everyone is allowed to reboard the same plane they just left so the original shift could go home and once again as I type this out we are sitting on the tarmac…waiting at 1am.

Just called the attendant for an update and THEY STILL HAVE NOT FUELED THE PLANE.

YALL WTF?!?!?

Seeking advice for how to be refunded for this disaster of a flight experience. Please HELP!!!

EDIT: 2 hr delay + 10 hr flight + 1 hr redirection + 3-4 hr debarkation + 2 hr holding for fuel = around 20hrs travel time

sorry I desperately need some sleep

UPDATE: It’s now 4:30 in ATL and there is no help at the Delta counter to assist around 200 people with rescheduling their flights, rechecking bags, or checking in people who have already rescheduled flights…let’s see how late in the day we go before we are wheels up

how my spine feels in delta seats

comfort plus, economy, doesn’t matter. the bottom cushion pushes your hips forward away from the back, leaving a massive hole where lumbar support should be. if i had more options i’d never fly delta again. i know there’s plenty of complaints with the headrest but this just compounds it imo and thought it needed mentioning as well

Involuntarily downgraded from Delta One to Premium Select – what refund did you get?

I paid full cash for a Delta One ticket from JFK–LAX (not an upgrade or award ticket) and had an assigned Delta One seat.
When I got to the gate, I was involuntarily downgraded to Premium Select. One of the reasons I booked Delta One was because I was traveling on a religious fast day and really needed the lie-flat seat.
Has this happened to anyone else? What refund or compensation did Delta give you? Did you receive just the fare difference, or additional compensation as well?
