Med Sep and Retirement Pay?

Greetings!

I’ve got a member who just had an AMRO initiated which could lead to a potential medical separation/retirement scenario. The members condition in no way affects their ability to do their job, but is nonetheless requiring a waiver that goes against current policy. Wing medical is completely supportive of it, but did warn the member it could lead to a medical separation/retirement.

The member is concerned as they are at 13 years and wanted to be able to retire, and don’t want those 13 years to be wasted (ie not receive retirement pay). They are also unsure if they are allowed to choose between being medically retired/separated or just dealing with their issue should the process come back against them (ie defer a waiver and stay in or no matter what they’re forced out).

I’ve got the questions out to the medical group and up my chain, but figured I’d ask the populous here if anybody has any experience with it.

We have a 1984 home and apparently during that recession era it was common to have lower ceilings. Several of the rooms already have ceiling fans, some with a floor to blade height of 78” (old brass and wood style). I’d like to replace the fans with something modern but my concern is that everything I’ve read online says 7’ minimum height and they just don’t make fans with a 4” drop.

I am 6’1” and the lower fans don’t bother me, especially since I’ll always have furniture under them, but is this really a problem?

Floor and wall mount fans are not an option, per the wife they don’t look good.
