Upwork now works with any AI tool that supports MCP

Hey r/UpworkOfficial,

We just launched the Upwork MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, which lets Upwork plug into the AI tools you're already using, like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and any other MCP-compatible tool, so hiring or getting hired can start right there instead of requiring several browser tabs.

To be clear about what this isn't: it's not AI replacing freelancers, and it's not AI making hiring decisions for you. The actual work, the actual hiring, that's all still real people, still on Upwork, with the same processes and protections that have always been there. This just removes the copy-paste step between "I'm figuring out what I need" and "I found the right person for it."

For freelancers, it means:

  • Your AI tool can surface jobs that match your skills, budget, and availability
  • Draft a proposal, flag client messages that need a reply, or submit milestone work, all from the same place. You still review and hit send on everything yourself, nothing goes to a client without you approving it first
  • Nothing changes about how you get discovered or paid. Same profile, same Job Success Score, same protections

For clients, that looks like:

  • Turning a project you're already scoping out in your AI tool into a job post
  • Getting a shortlist of qualified freelancers without leaving that conversation
  • Reviewing proposals and prepping offers in the same place
  • Every action that actually changes something (posting a job, sending an offer) requires your explicit confirmation first. Nothing happens automatically behind your back

A few things worth knowing:

  • It's completely optional. Nothing changes if you never touch it
  • It's free, no extra cost to clients or freelancers
  • Every connection runs through your actual authenticated Upwork account
  • Hiring, contracts, and payments still happen on Upwork, not inside the AI tool

This follows our Claude and ChatGPT integrations from earlier this year. The goal isn't to cut people out, it's to make sure that when someone's planning gets far enough with an AI tool, a real person is just one step away.

Upwork is now available in Claude

Hey r/UpworkOfficial,

Upwork is now available in Claude.

A lot of work today starts in AI tools. People brainstorm ideas, scope projects, pressure-test plans, and figure out what they actually need before they ever hire someone.

Eventually, the project needs a human who’s really good at the thing. That’s the thinking behind this launch. Instead of copy-pasting requirements into a new tab, you can now move from a conversation in Claude directly into finding freelancers and drafting a job post on Upwork.

Clients can:

  • Search for freelancers inside Claude
  • Draft a job post conversationally
  • Get recommended talent matches
  • Continue to Upwork to hire and collaborate

For freelancers, more clients find you where they're already working. No extra steps on your end.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Only public freelancer profiles are eligible to appear
  • Freelancers need a 90%+ Job Success Score
  • Boosted profiles do not affect visibility
  • Hiring and contracts still happen on Upwork

This follows our ChatGPT integration earlier this year and is part of our goal to bring Upwork into the tools where clients are already planning work..

Hey r/UpworkOfficial,

We just launched Upwork Updates Spring 2026, our biannual product release bundling the latest features and improvements across the platform. Here’s a quick breakdown on what’s changing.

A lot of this is focused on improving hiring flow, but it impacts how freelancers get discovered too.

  • Work history summaries – A freelancer’s most relevant past work on Upwork now gets pulled into a summary on your profile, so clients can evaluate your experience faster. It updates dynamically based on what clients are searching for or what’s in their job post, so the most relevant work history appears first.
  • ChatGPT discovery – Clients can now discover freelancers, directly inside ChatGPT, after they describe their project needs - you can see our post about that here
  • Contract generator – During Upwork video meetings, Uma, Upwork’s AI work agent, captures key details from the conversation that can be used to guide the development of a contract
  • Homepage redesign – A redesigned homepage that surfaces in-demand skills and roles based on marketplace trends
  • Shortlisting –  Previously available on Business Plus, shortlisting is now available on the Basic plan, delivering a curated list of top candidates within six hours of posting your job
  • Work diary summaries – Daily and weekly summaries of hourly project activity for Business Plus subscribers

You can more about the latests update here.

These updates are focused on making the platform work better for everyone – let us know what you think or drop any questions below.
