51% mode share in Detroit in 1570 In-game days

51.6% mode share in New Orleans in 622 In-game days

Wanted to avoid tunnels because I don't think digging tunnels in New Orleans is really a good idea, so everything is at grade or elevated.

Mostly elevated. Actually, very, very elevated, because my solution to avoiding eminent domain was to simply build train tracks above most people's houses, so most of the lines are 15-20 meters in the sky.

It might be an eyesore, and produce a bunch of noise pollution, but hey, I only had to eminent domain like 2 people's homes, so that has to count for something, right?

Anyways, fares are $7 because I like money.

Peak mode share at $7/ticket and full layout. Most routes followed 6/10/20/30 minute scheduling, but some were not that frequent.

Route Ridership and most used sections, 22 light metro routes, 4 commuter rail routes.

Per station route ridership. Commuter rail ended up dominating as it did last time.

Station Ridership, 525 stations, 422 station groups. Severn Av is the busiest with ~69k (nice) daily riders

Operational profit of ~$450-500 million/day at $7 fares

Different Maps Before/After 1.5.0

These were some maps I got to ~50% prior to 1.5.0, so I wanted to see what the ridership looked like before/after the buffs without any changes to service:

DC:

DC before 1.5.0, 50.3%

DC after 1.5.0, 63.6%

Dallas:

Dallas before 1.5.0, 46.8% (I had let it run a little bit after peak mode share, I think one of the routes also got messed up in 1.4)

Dallas after 1.5.0, 64%

Pittsburgh:

Pittsburgh before 1.5.0, 51%

Pittsburgh after 1.5.0, 60.8%

Honolulu:

Honolulu before 1.5.0, 42.3% (save file is 4+ months old, I think new transit data was added, since some pops were still uncalculated at the start)

Honolulu after 1.5.0, 53.8%

Charlotte:

(Might have to redo this map just because of the added population tbh. I'd probably want to start over though, just so I can have kind of a commuter rail spine and since it's a bit of a mess).

Charlotte before 1.5.0, 33%, might have to built this one out more just because it's been expanded so drastically since the last time I played it. This map was built before commuter rail was added, for reference.

Charlotte after 1.5.0, 37.3%

Miami:

(I did this one before I started trying to get maps to 50% but was still curious how it would affect mode share, and whether this algorithm is actually as big of a buff to commuter rail as it seems)

Miami before 1.5.0, 17.2% mode share, not during rush hour though.

Miami after 1.5.0, 26.3%

(Looks like more of a buff to express routes than anything (I had built a lot of express routes on this map before I knew they weren't that good pre-1.5), but the added speed of commuter rail might help. Might not be worth the infrastructure though, it's hard to tell).

51.0% Mode Share in SF in 902 in-game days

Definitely not optimal, but again I was kind of lazy on this map.

Algorithm change made a huge difference, went from 27% to 37% while building this pretty much just as a result of update 1.5.0.

Letters for heavy metro, numbers for light metro, and names of towns for commuter rail services. Most are primarily named for their southern terminus, except for the Oakland Express which I just made to give Downtown SF to Downtown Oakland an express route because somehow I hadn't done so earlier.

$7 fares because at one point I wanted to experiment with how much money I could possibly make off the system and I just never bothered to change fares afterwards. Probably would have reached 50% faster if I had though.

Peak mode share at $7/ticket and full layout. Most routes followed 8/12/20/30 schedule frequencies, with a few being somewhat higher. A lot of routes were also interlined.

Route Ridership and most used sections, 13 heavy metro routes, 12 light metro routes, 8 commuter rail routes. (Counted 8L and 8R as separate because I've done it like that in the past, technically it's a loop route though)

Gilroy route also had like 550k riders before building the Oakland Express but I think some of the ridership was absorbed by it. Oakland Express was the last route, I actually hit 50% before building it but it felt wrong not having an express train betw

een SF and Oakland.

Per station route ridership. Commuter rail ended up dominating, likely due to a mix of speed, the algorithm changes, and comparatively few stations.

Station Ridership, 1104 stations, 912 station groups. Embarcadero is unsurprisingly the busiest station complex with ~335k daily riders.

Operational profit of ~$4.5-5 billion/day at $7 fares

50.3% Mode Share in DC in 607 in-game days

This could probably be better optimized but I could not be bothered to do that and just let the game run overnight when I needed money.

Routes were named after US presidents, with new routes being named after the next president in the sequence. Got up to Warren G Harding before reaching 50%, so unfortunately that means some of the better presidents aren't included while some of the worse ones are. I also only counted Grover Cleveland once.

Red routes are north-south heavy metro, grey routes are east-west heavy metro (since white doesn't show up well), blue routes are light metro, and lavender routes (red + white + blue) are commuter.

Peak mode share at $3/ticket and full layout. Most routes followed either 6/10/15/20, 8/12/20/30, or 10/15/20/60 schedules, with interlining increasing the frequency of some local trips.

Route Ridership and most used sections, 11 heavy metro routes, 12 light metro routes, 5 commuter rail routes

Station Ridership, 1047 stations. Massachussetts Ave is the busiest station complex with ~479k daily riders.

Operational profit of ~$500 million/day at $3 fares

50.7% mode share in Dallas Fort Worth in 2175 in-game days

I would not recommend attempting this.

Started in version 1.2, avoided updating to 1.4 to avoid any issues with this map due to rebalancing.

4 months after starting I have finally hit 50% mode share in the DFW metroplex.  I kind of “cheated” this time by lowering fares to $3.75, but it still turns a profit of ~$300 billion even with those fares and I was tired of waiting like 2 minutes each time I wanted to place a singular station.  With the original $5 fares it gets like 45-46% mode share I think with ~$1.3 billion daily profit.

Peak mode share at $3.75/ticket and full layout

Route Ridership and most used sections, 30 light metro routes, 15 commuter rail routes

Station Ridership, 2375 stations

Operational profit, can manage ~$1.3 billion/day with $5 fares, but only ~$250-300 million with the $3.75 fares necessary to hit 50% mode share
