Hesitant about surgery

I tore my Meniscus from a race. I did an MRI and was told "Medial compartment: Complex tear at the junction of the body and posterior horn of the medial meniscus."

The orthopedic suggested I start with PT and see if they helps. I suppose I should preface with the fact that I love to walk (25k-30k a day) and jog. Obviously I haven't been able to jog from this. The PT hasn't done much in the 3 weeks I've done it and both the Physical Therapist and now Orthopedist are saying surgery is the better route. They say this because while the pain is tolerable the primary issue is I get lots of mini-split-second-locks though out the day. It's literally for a millisecond or so but still annoying. I also get clicks anytime I go up stairs or a curb etc.

I'm annoyed that I wouldn't be able to know the type of surgery before going in he said once he drills he'll be able to tell if it's a Repair surgery or Partial Meniscectomy. (but likely the second)

I'm concerned about the long term process, I'm reading a lot about arthritis as a cause of Partial Meniscectomy and that it's no longer shock absorbent.

Can anyone who's done the surgery share your thoughts? Did it help? Whats the recovery like? Can you run now post surgery without problems? (can you mention how many years has it been since you've done the surgery)

If you regret doing it please let me know! Cause what happens if I just dont do it? Ortho said it will get much worse. true?
