Laptop Buying Guide for Students (Coding + Projects + Basic Editing)

I did some research for students who want a laptop mainly for:

Coding

Full stack development

College projects

Online classes

OBS recording

Basic video editing

PPT/docs/productivity

Light content creation

These are the specs I found most practical for students in 2026:

Recommended Specs:

CPU

Ryzen 5 5625U / 7430U / 7530U or above

OR Intel i5 12th/13th Gen

Prefer 6 cores / 12 threads

RAM

16GB preferred

Upgradeable RAM is a huge plus

Storage

512GB NVMe SSD minimum

Display

14” or 15.6” FHD IPS

Battery

5–8 hrs decent backup

Useful Features

Backlit keyboard

Good webcam/mic

WiFi 5/6

Lightweight for portability

Good enough for:

VS Code

Chrome multitasking

React/Node projects

OBS Studio

Basic Premiere Pro/CapCut editing

College work

Hackathons

Main thing I learned:

Don’t buy laptops only based on brand name or gaming looks.

Prioritize:

Processor

RAM

SSD

Upgradeability

Battery

Do Not Do

As a final year student I realised that in my past years I was just focusing on quantity not quality. I tried to learn everything I heard but I was wrong. Instead of trying to learn everything just focus on particular things that aligns you goal because trying to achieve everything is not a good practice ultimately you will achieve nothing.

So, the final recommendation is Focus on quality not quantity
