laptop for speech language therapy student with low budget

I'm looking for a laptop that can carry me through about 2 more years of university and writing my bachelor thesis. I've had someone recommend the Lenovo v15 gen 4, is that anything?

My needs:

- something portable I can carry around most days

- no fancy programs, I basically only need the office suite

- I just need to do research, write essays, take notes and maybe edit some basic audio sometimes via audacity

- not a gamer

- I'm not an apple user and would only get a MacBook if it's truly the best option here

- I'll need to ask a family member to buy this for me and would like to keep the price as low as possible, so under 600$ would be great

I'll keep an eye out for refurbished ones but I've had bad experiences before where the battery was completely shot, so I'm a bit cautious about that. I'm open to any input, if it's not possible to get a reliable laptop within my budget feel free to tell me

Thank you for your help!

Best 14 Inch Windows Laptop for College CS Under $1500

I’m looking for a laptop that has a 14 inch screen for college under $1500.

I’ve looked into the Asus zenbook 14 s and it seems like a good option https://www.bestbuy.com/product/asus-zenbook-s-14-14-3k-oled-touch-screen-laptop-copilot-pc-intel-core-ultra-7-32gb-ram-1tb-ssd-zumaia-gray/JJGGLHJXT8/sku/6615730?utm\_source=feed

What are some other laptops in this price point? I’m not looking for any macbooks. Any advice is appreciated!

What laptop brand is durable enough to survive being tossed in a backpack daily?

Im rough with my stuff, no fancy case, carry it with books and water bottle. dont want something flimsy that cracks or breaks the hinge in a semester. Which brands or models are built tough?

best budget laptop for students in 2026 - honest breakdown by price tier because most threads ignore the real traps

best budget laptop for students gets asked constantly and the replies are always the same handful of names with zero context on what actually matters before you spend money

so here's what i'd actually think about depending on what you can spend

a few things worth knowing upfront though

8gb ram on windows 11 is genuinely rough. the OS alone chews through 4-5gb before you've opened anything. throw chrome, word and zoom open at the same time and you're already fighting it. get 16gb wherever you can honestly

if you're looking at renewed stuff : tbh it means tested and working, not new. things might show up with keyboard wear or a scratched lid. performance is usually fine but don't expect it to look fresh. 90 days coverage only, no manufacturer warranty after that

chromebooks : one windows-only requirement from your program and the whole thing falls apart. make sure your entire four years is browser based before going that route. most programs aren't, imo

arm laptops like the snapdragon x ones : some older academic software just doesn't run on them. worth five minutes checking your required programs before buying one

under $300 is almost entirely renewed dell latitude business laptops and tbh the value here is kind of wild. these were $1,500 corporate machines that companies offload after a few years

the Dell Latitude 5400 (i7 Renewed) is probably your best bet here. you get 16gb ram, a 512gb ssd, and windows 11 pro. just make sure you buy directly from Amazon Renewed and not some sketchy third-party seller on the marketplace, because that's usually how people get burned

the Dell Latitude 5420 (16GB Renewed) is the newer chip version if that matters to you - 11th gen i5, same story. pretty popular pick from what i've seen

if cosmetic wear is a dealbreaker and you need something brand new, ASUS Vivobook 14 i3 at $299 is the only new option in this range. the Latitudes give you more machine for similar money though if you can live with some scuffs

under $500 is where it starts making sense for most students

Lenovo V15 (Ryzen 3, 16gb ddr5, windows 11 pro) is honestly what i'd tell most people to just get here. 16gb under $450 is hard to find and the pro license matters if you're doing any virtualization for CS

Dell 15 DC15250 is worth looking at if storage is what you care about — 512gb means you're not constantly deleting stuff to make room, which is more annoying than people realize

ASUS Vivobook Go Ryzen 5 with 512gb is worth a look if you're the type who drops their laptop a lot. can take a beating

under $700 is where it gets interesting

MacBook Neo is honestly great for the right person. liberal arts, business, communications, general studies — battery life and build at that price is hard to argue with. engineering or advanced CS though, skip it, it's not built for that and you'll figure it out the hard way

Lenovo V15 Gen 4 (i5, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd, windows 11 pro) : full port situation, looks professional, handles four years without drama. tbh this is what i'd tell a business or nursing student to just buy and stop overthinking it

Acer Nitro V (rtx 4050) is the only one with a dedicated GPU under $700. the pick for CS students doing ML stuff or anyone who games. ships with 8gb which you'll want to bump to 16gb day one, costs like $30-40 and makes a real difference

Acer Aspire 14 AI (core ultra 7, intel arc graphics) is the one if you want the strongest integrated GPU and on-device AI in this range. pretty impressive for the price imo

anyway i put together a full breakdown matching these to specific majors here if anyone wants it : https://beststudentslaptop.com/best-budget-laptop-for-students/

What's your budget and what are you studying? those two things honestly change everything

Laptop help for electrical engineering student

Hello, I'm in the market for a laptop after my laptop i used through high school tore itself apart. I'm on a pretty restricting budget (<800) preferred as long as can be, I was checking Facebook marketplace for good deals on used laptops, and I found a 2022 ASUS Zephyrus g14 with the following specs for $500:

- AMD Radeon RX 6700S GPU

- 16GB RAM

- 1TB SSD

- 14” WQXGA 120Hz display

The seller says no outside physical damage, but it has an overheating issue which I've read online is pretty common on these laptops, I have all the tools to take it apart and repaste aswell. I'm not afraid to do so.

I bet I can offer a bit lower than $500 for the laptop, but any thoughts on how good this laptop would be for a student like me?

Looking for a budget corporate-like laptop

Hello there!

I already have a powerful desktop PC, but I’m doing a Master’s in HR and I want to buy a cheap laptop, maybe second-hand, that lets me do Human Resources stuff like using Office 365 and similar programs. I’d like something lightweight and around 14 inches (I have big hands, so I don't wanna go with anything smaller).

I found in a big company here in Europe two laptops that may be good enough, but Im not sure since I've never been into laptops:

HP EliteBook 840 G6 - Intel Core i5-8265U, 16 GB RAM and 256GB SSD. I like that its silver colour, looks like it has more "premium" look, but both the SSD and its ports make me think its older.

DELL E3420 - Intel i5-1145G7, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD.I like its ports but I dont quite like it being black.

Both of this laptops are listed just under 300€, second hand.

I'll love to read your opinions and suggestions 😄

Laptop for premed and biology

I’m starting collage this fall and I can’t figure out what laptop to buy. I’ve been looking at Dells but I’m not sure. I’m going to be taking a lot of notes so I’ll need a fair bit of storage. I’ll be using it everyday. I would perfect something with a good battery life but if I have to charge it a little more often it’s not a huge deal. I want it to last me at least 4 years, hopefully more. I’m trying to stay under $2000 USD.

Mechanical Engineering laptop

I’m stumped on what specs I’ll need for my laptop going into college as a freshman. I’ll be in mechanical engineering not sure what subdivision yet. Ideally I want a laptop that’s not so bulky and good battery life, but can still run majority of programs I may need. I’ve been looking at laptops with cpus like the intel core ultra 5 226v, core ultra 7 256v, and core ultra 9 288v, just wondering if anyone has experience with these specs or if anyone has recommendations for a laptop. The specific laptop I’ve been looking at is the Acer Aspire 14 Ai which has any of the 3 cpus mentioned above, although no dedicated gpu I think the IGPU’s are well enough to run majority of programs?

Is this a good laptop for chemical engineering?

I would prolly use the touch screen stuff cuz I like notes online sometimes. I was wondering if this was a good laptop for engineering software, chemical engineering specifically. I also wanna run games like cyber punk or re4 or requiem.
