Laptop for EEE

Laptop for EEE

I’m starting Electrical and Electronic Engineering at university and I’m looking for a Windows laptop that should last me throughout the degree.

I’m considering this Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 from Costco:

https://www.costco.co.uk/Computers/Laptops-MacBooks/Lenovo-IdeaPad-Pro-5-14AGP11-CopilotPC-AMD-Ryzen-AI-7-32GB-RAM-1TB-SSD-14-Inch-OLED-Laptop-83SG000GUK/p/640242

Specs:

  • Ryzen AI 7 450
  • 32GB RAM
  • 1TB SSD

I’ll already have a fairly powerful desktop PC and monitor at home so the laptop will mainly be for lectures, labs, programming, MATLAB, circuit simulation/CAD and general university work, plus occasional travelling.

My priorities are:

  • 32GB RAM
  • 1TB SSD
  • good battery life
  • lightweight/portable
  • good build quality and durability
  • enough performance for EEE software for the next 4+ years

Would you recommend this IdeaPad Pro 5, or would I be better off getting something like a Thinkpad or another Windows laptop?

Richmond Park Accommodation

I’m starting at uom this september and I’ve been allocated Richmond Park.
Just wondering if anyone who’s lived there (or is there now) could share what it’s actually like?
How social is it? What kind of events/parties happen during freshers and throughout the year? Is it easy to meet people from other flats/halls? What are the flats and kitchens like and is there anything you wish you knew before moving in?
Also curious about the mix of home/international students and the general vibe compared with other Fallowfield halls.
Any tips for Richmond specifically or things I should bring/avoid bringing would be appreciated :)
Also would appreciate any group chats etc.

Laptop recommendations for an Electrical Engineering student?

Hey everyone,
I’m starting university this year studying Electrical Engineerng and I’m looking for a laptop that will hopefully last me throughout my degree. I already have a 500Hz Oled monitor so I don’t really care about having an amazing display on the laptop itself. I’d rather put the money towards performance, battery life, build quality, etc.
My priorities, from most to least important, are:

  1. University work
  2. Gaming
  3. Photo editing
  4. Movies/Youtube

What are the most important things I should know when choosing a laptop for Electrical Engineering? What specs will I actually need for university CPU, GPU, RAM, storage? Should it be lightweight? Is there anything important that first-year students often overlook?
What would you guys recommend? Thanks for your help.
Do not really care about a budget.

Best Lenses for Canon EOS R50

What the best set of 2-3 lenses for my camera

Mainly for landcapes, hiking, sometimes wildlife and probably astro in the futer

My budget is mid-range. I’m not planning to spend several thousand pounds on lenses at this stage but I’d like to choose lenses that will still be useful when I upgrade my camera body in the future(probably to full frame).
What do you think?

Any help/advice/insight would be appreciated.
