Souter Mites? Something Else?

I found these grape flower bundles covered in this web-looking stuff yesterday. It wasn’t present a couple of days ago. Is this from SPIDER* mites? Can anyone help me identify the issue? Advice on remediating it is greatly appreciated too. Thanks!

Frost Damage, Warm Temperatures?

Evidence of an interesting scientific “phenomenon“?

I had this extra vine that began to bud that I threw in a large pot with a bit of dirt. The buds looked fine and I transplanted it after a deep freeze that swept across the area. I have a data logger about 2 feet from the pot that read the coldest temperature as being 38F. Fast forward a week later and it looks to have frost damage to me. Can anyone confirm this? If so, I believe it happened for an interesting reason.

Radiative sky cooling happens when an object is able to radiate out heat energy to the sky/space like a heatsink. You’ll see evidence of this as frost on your roof shingles despite the temperature being above freezing. If this is frost damage, I think it could have happened by the soil radiating heat to the sky, dropping the soil temperature below freezing, which sub-sequentially drops the temperature of the air trapped in the oversized pot below freezing. If the pot had been filled to the top with dirt I think this may not have happened.

Best LI Wine

Who wants to share what they think is the best LI wine? I’m talking about the quality of the wine itself, not the venue. You can choose a specific bottle, a specific winery, a different place for different styles (red, white, sparkling, etc). I’m a little bit of a wine nerd and I’m looking for some new wines to try and just see what people think.

I’ll update my post with my favorites after a few comments roll in.

Some of my favorites:

  • Bedell: [Cab Franc, Malbec, Albariño, Verdejo]
  • Suhru/Lieb: [Teroldego, LaCrescent (a hybrid), Syrah/Shiraz]
  • Borghese: oldest vines, decent reds and rose with many offerings
  • Raphael: [Malbec is solid for $13 a bottle]
  • Chronicle: [I forgot which label, but they had a Merlot/Cab Franc blend that was awesome. The sur lie Sauvignon Blanc was solid too.]

Passing a little judgment on any votes for Pindar, Osprey, and Duckwalk 😝

I have a 2021 Seltos that I brought in under the recall. The dealer installed the software, but didn’t change the engine. Now, a few months later, my car has nearly no oil and I don’t see any oil marks on the ground where I park. I checked the oil after my car started making a brief kind of clicking, hollow engine sound during throttle on occasion. Is this something I should go directly to the dealer for, or should I bring it to my local mechanic first? I would hope they inspect it for free, but I’m unsure if that’s the case.

Some background info:

  • I’m the first owner
  • 63k miles
  • regular full synthetic oil changes. I believe it’s about 7k miles between those changes. I should have evidence of some but possibly not all oil changes.
  • last oil change was about 6k miles ago
  • car should still be under the 10 year 100k mile warranty
  • piston ring was checked 6 months to a year ago
