Heading east on 29th Ave

When heading eastbound on 29th Ave bikeway, there’s a stretch where you have to ride on Puget Dr then turn left onto Eddington Dr. While I was on Puget, I sped up to take the lane as I had to turn left shortly after and when you do there’s a downhill stretch on Eddington. At the bottom of this hill, nearby some schools/fields, there are some speed bumps and I crashed pretty badly there. This was my first time on this path and it’s entirely possible I gained too much speed/didn’t slow down enough but I generally don’t struggle with speed bumps and didn’t feel like this was a particularly hazardous maneuver for me. As I was sitting there after the crash, another cyclist went over the same speed bump and made an audible gasp as they went over it.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced trouble there? I get it’s a road for cars too and there are schools etc but I’m also wondering if it’s a bit of hazard for cyclists to encounter a speed bump on a downhill trajectory. In any case, please take caution if you’re ever headed this way.

Bike Crash/Future Shock

Hi everyone,

I was in a pretty bad crash on the road and I’m trying to understand what might have happened so that I take better caution in the future. I was riding on road heading back from some off-road trails, on a somewhat prolonged stretch of downhill so I definitely gathered some speed. At the end of the downhill stretch is a rounded concrete speed bump which I routinely bunny hop but for whatever reason I crashed and it all happened so fast that I don’t know if it was the front or back wheel etc..

The Diverge is new to me so I’m wondering if there’s something about its future shock mechanics that I haven’t grasped, whether it’s possible that when the front tire made contact with the speed bump that too much downward force went into the head tube that it flipped the bike. The other thing that could have happened is that I was launched when the back tire went over the speed bump.

Unfortunately for me, none of this felt dangerous/risky at the time but clearly something wasn’t right. Should the future shock be locked when riding on road or for any downhills/descents? Needless to say, I’ll also be feathering the brakes more. Luckily the damage to the bike doesn’t look too bad.
