SSD Setup for new DS925+
I recently got a new DS925+ , upgrading from my existing DS218+. I got 2 x 8TB HDD for my storage (upgraded from 2x 4TB).
I am debating what to do with open 2 bays and with nvme slots.
I mostly use the synology for photo backup and movies and documents. I plan to run Jellyfin on a Mac Mini M2 because of transcoding. I’m still using synology photos but have started to use immich also running on Mac Mini.
Questions I’m looking for some feedback is
should I use the nvme for read only cache? If so how much cache should I setup? I have read that after a certain point there are diminishing returns. Also I plan to use non synology ssd.
should I create an ssd volume just for app installation? If so should I do that on the m2 drives or use 2 x sata ssd for this volume. Same question what would be a good volume size for apps.
for my use case do I need any of these options is it just over kill?
how would an ssd volume impact Drive and the “homes” folder structure?
Before someone says it , I plan to stay with synology I have no interest in moving to another brand. Reliability and DSM are my reasons for staying with Synology.
