Diving help? Confused as hell!

Hi! Sorry in advance if this sounds really silly, but I'm not quite finding the clear answer I want here!

I have booked my open water dive with Bans Diving Resort, and I can't wait! I was hoping to do my e-learning element before going to Thailand to complete my practical in water sessions.

Does anyone know if you have to pay again through PADI to access the e-learning or does Ban provide this as I've paid for an open water already? I arrive in September, but would like to get a head start on the e learning ASAP.

Hi! Planning a trip to Koh Samui and struggling to pick the right area and hotel

I know I definitely don’t want Chaweng — seems a bit too wild/party for me.

But also worried places like Maenam might be too quiet.

So I’m trying to find something in the middle.

Ideally looking for:

A hotel that’s walkable to the main area (e.g. if Lamai, then close to the main strip — I don’t want to rely on taxis every night)

Somewhere with a bit of life — pubs, restaurants, somewhere to wander in the evening

More local/authentic vibe — dive bars, casual food spots, not super polished or overly touristy (yes I know I’m contributing to that lol)

Around £500–£600 for 6 nights

Preferably 4⭐ or close to it

Spa on site would be ideal

Bit romantic vibe, not a party hostel

Also want to be:

Close-ish to zip lining / jungle stuff

Within reach of decent snorkelling spots

From what I can tell, Lamai might be the sweet spot — more laid back than Chaweng but still has bars, live music, and beer bar areas without being too hectic

Would love recommendations on:

Best areas within Lamai (north/south/central?)

Or anywhere else that fits that same vibe

Basically just want somewhere I can walk out at night, grab food, a few drinks, wander about, but not feel like I’m in full-on party central.

Thanks!
