Can we please talk about this?? Like… what are these poses??! 💀 The entire interview is extraordinarily calculated, articulate, overwhelmingly professional.. and then there’s this guy literally pulling a “Home Alone” for the cover of Higher 🥲 I just can’t.. I literally can’t 🫠

If you haven’t already seen it yet, Vessel’s cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing In the Dark” (September 24, Philadelphia Ritual) is truly something to behold..

It goes heavy into how he sees sound — similar to the OutKast “Hey Ya” cover, he manages to take this poppy up-beat song and twist it on its head in style.. He’s never been a stranger to writing heart-wrenching lyrics over a bright melody which is something I think he identifies with heavily with this song in particular. His piano work in addition compliments it too well with a lot of hidden chords that do nothing but pull at the heartstrings..

But the lyrics are heavily ST-coded, dipping into struggles we’ve seen over the entire discog. It fits so well with the “lore” of feeling stuck, being trapped in a pattern, nods to nighttime and becoming someone new..

The meaning behind the actual song and the circumstances of how it was written by Springsteen is also extremely similar to current struggles ST have faced with signing to their current label.. The dichotomy between wanting to create music freely and how much of yourself is lost to fame / fortune I feel is there heavily..

I already cry every time I hear this song, but hearing Vessel’s cover just hit like a punch to the chest.. All the while healing a part of me that I didn’t realise was still so broken.. This throne didn’t come with a gun, but this gun’s for hire even if we’re just dancing in the dark 🌙
