I just watched a video by Marc Lou where he says his success rate is only 5%. That means only 1 out of every 20 projects actually earns something significant for him. By the way, he has a massive follower base to help him launch.
I see hundreds of new projects shared here every week and it makes me wonder: Has anyone here actually managed to earn a living as a solodev starting from scratch? I’m not talking about the 99% "hype marketing" stories we see on Reddit and Youtube: the 16-year-olds bragging about $10k apps, $1M in a month etc. You definatly saw it. I’m wondering if anybody solo managed to make their side projects a real lifestyle that lets you earn enough to live on without having followers to start with.
If you’ve done it:
- How long did it take you?
- Was it your 1st project or your 20th?
- How did you get users without a big social media presence?
I've been using Antigravity since late last year, and while it started out fine, it has gone downhill with every update. It feels like Google is actively pushing users away with more limited, expensive plans. The real dealbreaker isn't the IDE, it's that it just doesn't work; I get hit with constant "high traffic" errors even on the Ultra plan. Nobody warns you about this when they sell you the subscription, and the constant connection issues are actually giving me anxiety. I’ve lost all trust in Google and only use their products when forced to. Switching to Claude has been a massive relief because the interface is stable and I can actually focus without locks or lag. After four months of struggling, I’m definitely not going back.
I seriously wonder why people still put up with the hassle or try to rollback versions when you could just switch to something like Codex or Claude that actually works. Is it just the price, or are people just afraid of change?
