I built an Android app that automatically cuts dead time out of volleyball matches (runs 100% locally on your phone). Now open for testing!

About two months ago, I posted here looking for early testers for an app I’ve been building.

As anyone who records matches knows, scrubbing through 60–90 minutes of footage just to find actual rally time is exhausting—and existing sports platforms charge crazy monthly subscription fees just to do it in the cloud.

I built VolleyRally to solve this. It cuts raw game footage into clean highlight reels containing only the action:

  • 100% Local Processing: Runs directly on your device—no waiting for slow cloud uploads and complete privacy for your footage.
  • Automatic Rally Detection: Skips timeouts, walking to the service line, and court downtime.
  • Full Control: Adjust individual rally trims, tweak action padding, or export an EDL to sync with Premiere/DaVinci.

Thanks to the great feedback from this community and early testers, the app is now live for Open Testing on the Google Play Store:

Give it a spin with your latest match footage and let me know what you think! Any feedback, bug reports, or feature requests are welcome in the comments, via DM, or at volleytics28@gmail.com

I built an app that automatically cuts your raw volleyball footage

A little over a month ago, I posted that I was building an app that runs locally on your phone and turns your raw game footage into highlight videos containing only the actual playtime—without needing to rely on massive platforms that cost a lot of money to do this for you.

I am glad to announce that development has been a massive success! The app is able to take a three-set match with over an hour of footage and process it in under 15 minutes directly on my phone, cutting it down to half an hour of pure game time. This means that even if you want to watch the game as soon as you finish playing it, and do not care about the dead time, passing your video through the app saves you time. And of course it makes the watching experience much more enjoyable.

I am also excited to announce that the app is entering the final stages of development, and I am looking for Android beta testers. I need a few people to help test the app on their own footage and provide feedback before the official release on the Google Play Store.

If you are interested in trying it out, contact me here on Reddit via DM, or at my email: volleytics28@gmail.com.

I love watching cut game footage, but making it takes forever. Would love feedback on a side project!

Hey guys,

Watching a game that's been trimmed down to just the action is easily the most enjoyable way to review film. I wanted an easier way to get those cuts without paying for massive, complicated platforms, so I started building a custom app for everyday players.

The idea is that the whole thing runs locally right on your phone. You don't have to wait forever for massive video files to upload to a cloud server—it's super fast and you can just cut your clips on the bus ride home.

Because it doesn't rely on expensive servers, the plan is to make it way cheaper than all the big competitors. Before I put a ton of time into actually finishing and releasing it, I wanted to ask:

Is this something you guys would actually use? And if it genuinely saves you a bunch of time, would you be willing to pay for it?
