It's fucked up that some of the best dating advice I've ever read was posted by an incel.

This was posted to an incel board like a year or two ago, but it was such an amazing and succinct way of putting it that I've never forgotten it, and I still think about it sometimes. This guy posted a thing on one of the incel boards talking about how angry he was at his mom, and how she just doesn't understand girls at all. He tried to tell her all about how horrible women are and how there's no way any woman could ever be attracted to a short Indian man, and she clearly doesn't understand anything because she tried to tell him that they "want to be with someone that is proud of who they are."

Fuck me, I wish somebody had told me that when I was a teenager. Like, she just handed him solid gold advice, it sailed right over his head, then he posted it to an incel board and it sailed right over their heads too. These guys really are holding the keys to their own chains, and nobody can help them but themselves.

Veterans yoga group?

Hi all, I really want to get back into yoga and know it'll be easier with a group, but as a disabled vet with multiple injuries I'm not really comfortable in most groups. Can anyone recommend a veterans yoga group around here, ideally one that meets afternoons or evenings?

Local silk screen maker?

Does anyone know any local silkscreeners who make their own screens? I need several made, and I'm hoping to hire someone locally rather than just order them online. I know they're simple to put together, but I have an injury to my dominant arm that makes the weeding part difficult and I need many of them made. Any recommendations?

I got thanked for my service the other day

Hey all, medically retired OIF Marine grunt here. I don't wear moto or military clothes and I don't have any tattoos, and other than keeping my hair short there's nothing military about the way I look. I wear my hair short because it looks good on me and I hate having long hair, especially when it gets wet, but my neighbor who went to trade school right after high school and now makes custom bathrooms has basically the exact same haircut. I do also have some pretty bad scars, but they're not prominent, they're mostly covered by clothing and could have come from anywhere.

All that said, the other day I was getting groceries, like I'm literally just looking at bread and debating if I wanted to be fat and also get cake when I hear "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!" I look up and there's this older couple, he's in a wheelchair and she's clutching their cart for support, and they're both staring directly at me, waiting for me to say something back. I say "Pardon?" She says "You're military, right? Your haircut? So, thank you for your service!"

I do NOT want to get into it with these folks and tell them all about the chain of SNAFUs that led to my injury, and how my retirement package is basically a malpractice settlement for them permanently ******* up my injury instead of fixing it. Yes, I do happen to be a former Marine grunt, and I do happen to have fought in Iraq, but I really don't want to get into with them about all the issues with that war, and I REALLY don't want to get into it with them talking about the issues faced by the military and veterans today, and how their choices may have affected those things. I just don't want to get into any of this ****, I'm just trying to get groceries and get home before my wife gets off work at 4.

I ended up saying what I usually say, that I wouldn't be able to handle a job at Walmart, thank you, have a nice day, and I got out of there. It might seem like a stupid encounter to dwell on, but I'm guessing y'all can understand why it bothered me so much. I appreciate people being supportive and understanding, but **** me it is awkward to be randomly called out like that, especially when they know literally nothing about my "service", and ESPECIALLY when I'm thinking "she likes the Italian loaves but all I see is sourdough, so I'll just get some focaccia... and maybe some cake..."

I knew a few Vietnam vets growing up and have met a bunch since joining/fighting/dealing with the VA/retiring, and I'm insanely grateful to them for having paved the way for my generation to actually get taken care of*. My high school ex's dad was 101st Airborne in Vietnam, and he could never go up to Canada with us because Canadian border security knew about his arrest for beating the **** out of a civilian who had spit on him. If it's a choice between that and "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!", obviously I'd prefer the latter, but I feel like there has got to be a better way somewhere in the middle.
