Android app that lets you message nearby friends when mobile signal dies at festivals

Hey all, there is a new Android app called CrowdHop that lets nearby phones relay short messages over Bluetooth instead of mobile signal.

Messages can hop between nearby phones and travel up to 1km with enough nearby users.

Mainly aimed at festivals, clubs and campsites where networks get overloaded.

If anyone wants to try it, it’s on Google Play.

Here’s an Android app that still lets you message nearby friends when festival phone signal dies

Hey all! My phone signal completely dies at festivals every year, so I’ve been experimenting with an Android app called CrowdHop that lets nearby phones pass short messages between each other using Bluetooth instead of mobile signal.

It’s mainly designed for crowded places like festivals where network signal can be a bit patchy. The range can be up to 1km if there are enough people using the app and moving around.

Still early and experimental, but figured some people here might genuinely find it useful or interesting.
