This happend the day before yesterday close to my hometown in the Austria.
Fortunately the young driver (17 yrs old) has no serious injuries.
We just came back home after 2300 km driving our 1966 beetle from Austria via Italy, ferry from Ancona to Patras, then Zakynthos, Kefalonia and Lefkada. We had a fabulous time and we will do it again.
Our bug is more or less stock, except the engine is not a 1300, it's a 1200.
Hello everyone, we are doing a road trip "lite" to Greece coming from Austria via Ancona by ferry to Patras with our beloved 1966 bug by end of May (further on island hoping to Kefalonia and Lefkada).
We will arrive in Patras at 16:00. Then we drive to Kyllini to take the ferry to Zakynthos. There are two options for us - one at 17:15 and the other one at 21:30.
According to Google Maps it takes us about 1 h. Theoretical 15 minutes left if everything runs smooth. Would this be enough to board the ferry if we bought the ticket in advance?
If we bought the tickets in advance and we don't make it on time, then our tickets are expired.
Otherwise we take the ferry at 21:30 and spend the time at a nice taverna. But it would've been nicer to be already at the hotel to have the first dinner and don't have to drive anymore.
Many thanks for your thoughts.
EDIT: Many thanks for all your feedback. So we will take it easy, enjoy a nice dinner somewhere in Patras or somewhere in between and take the ferry at 21:30.
Originally we should have arrived at 23:00 the day before but the ferry has been canceled. It was clear then that we would stay in Patras for the night and leave the next day whenever we wanted.
Nevertheless, we’re really looking forward to our adventure!
