Flexispot E7 Pro with Ikea Karlby 74” Review
Like most people, a flash drop for discounts might push people away but I was still in the market for a standing desk anyways and didn’t want to spend so much. I wasn’t really in a rush to get a standing desk, so figured I might as well try for one of the drops for fun. Luckily I ended up being one of the ones who got a 60% off coupon on 6/23. I don’t think I did anything special, but just as how some other people mentioned pre-load everything including address and kept Paypal already logged in. In the end, I scored an E7 Pro frame with a CH4B CPU Holder for a total of $206. Both items shipped separately but arrived the next day, I guess I’m closer enough for next day shipping.
Setup was pretty simple DIYing with my previously owned Ikea Karlby 74”. The biggest trouble I had was needing help flipping the desk back over after screwing everything in. I originally had 5x Ikea Adils legs and 2x Monoprice cable organizers, and re-did my entire setup. So along with the E7 Pro, I 3D printed a new mount for my Motu M2, and bought generic 2” heavy duty casters and a 31” Vivo screw-in fabric cable organizer.
Tbh, I actually didn’t get a standing desk to use it for typical standing up use, I really got it for cable management lol Being able to raise up the desk and still sit down in my chair while organizing things is so much less tiring, with my Herman Miller Aeron on the lowest setting I can easily reach everything. Even with the weight on my desk, it’s easy to turn and move the desk if I ever need to access the back of my monitors too. It is a bit heavy to move around, but it’s way better than dragging the desk on Adils legs.
The C-shape also looks much better too and I don’t have to watch my feet as much towards each of the corners, and with only two main legs, I don’t have to try to reconfigure cables around the old Adils legs and can center my monitors now without a leg in the way. I don’t have any thing else to help to prevent sagging so time will tell if just using the E7 Pro is good enough to prevent it on the Karlby especially with two ultra wides.
So far, everything has felt much more convenient and feels like I have way more desk space. After years of re-organizing cables and buying random accessories, this is the most complete I’ve felt my desk could get too.
My only con was that the CH4B CPU Holder didn’t actually fit my 12” tall Sliger SM570. I didn’t expect it to fit width wise, just as long as it fit snug top to bottom. So in the end I ended up not using it and Flexispot support was able to help out a refund. I was hoping I could get my SFF tower off my desk, but I guess for now I’ll just leave it as is. If anyone can meet up in 91709, Southern California, I’d be willing to give to you for free if I haven’t already gotten rid of it lol.
