Seeking purchase advice: Color printer for a dusty workshop/barn with Mac wifi

What would you like to accomplish?

My Epson WF-4734 just bit the dust, literally (error 031008). I need a replacement for my small e-commerce crafting business workshop (dusty environment), with a Mac wifi connection.

Are there any models you are currently looking at?

No, I'm completely overwhelmed by the options out there. I have an HP E45028 that's working fairly well as my primary printer that I got via an IT service company, which is no longer servicing my area. However, I find with there are occasionally weird glitches when it just won't communicate with my Mac. So I'd prefer my 2nd printer to be a different make/model for backup. (It's been critical before when I'm scrambling to get the shipping out the door under deadline to switch to the Epson when the HP's not working, and vice versa.)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Budget: Under $1k USD
  • Country: USA
  • Color or black and white: Color. I'm not printing photos or anything but it does need to be decent quality for marketing materials
  • Laser or ink printer: Preferably ink. I've read laser is better for dusty environments, but my HP is a laser and I find that the ink smears on shipping labels when I'm pressing them onto the package, while the my Epson inkjet did not smear.
  • New or used: No preference
  • Multi-function: Not needed, no preference
  • Duplex Printing: Yes, mandatory
  • Home or business: Small business in my home in a rural area
  • Printing content: Less than 100 pages/day on average. We do print on several different kinds of paper: cardstock, label paper, letterhead, regular paper, so multiple trays would be nice but not a deal-breaker.
  • Printing frequency: I usually use the printer 3 times/week, under a deadline
  • Pages per minute : No preference, not in a hurry
  • Page size: US letter, although large format Ledger would be a nice bonus
  • Device printing from: Mac laptop (no ethernet port, only 1 USB-C that is currently being used for keyboard)
  • Connection type: Wifi / AirPrint

Any other details:

Newly remodeled Manzanita hotel features local driftwood art

We’re Nehalem artists sharing a "digital gallery" of the private collection we made for the hotel on our website so everyone can enjoy the artwork online, and a "behind-the-scenes" photo essay. The artwork is featured in all the fireplace rooms of the newly remodeled Manzanita Oceanfront Inn (nee Sunset Surf Motel), which opened this week.
