Easy day

This had to be trimmed at the table (not by me thankfully) to minimize the misalignment of little round medallion which would have been noticed the most. The trim lines were dead on top of one another, no room to dc. Still, with a 45 yr experienced trimmer, on glass, still doesn’t compare to a dc. Still came out flawless… just not on a micro level as with dc.

With some experienced magic and a hint of luck to balance everything out. One area the chairrail to crown was around 1/2” difference.

Blades

Curious what blades are everyone using? I was looking for a less expensive blade and bought NT Cutter black blades, not realizing their thickness is .25 and Olfa abb are .38. A lot thinner, love them and been using ever since for several years now, worth a try.

Another PJ SIL

This was a paperbacked product. Destructions say in all caps NEVER paste the material. My belief is bc some yahoo who’s not an installer doesn’t know paper expands. So as to follow their recommendations we and against my experience, we followed. The edges curled, no biggie, put packing tape on the edge and as per usual dc NOT table trim.

The seams laid down perfectly but we did chase a few expansion bubbles, gee I wonder why? Maybe bc the material needed to relax? Ya think? If I had to do again I would paste the material but this was my parters client. All in all, it pulled down super tight, even the past lines disappeared.

Moral of the story? Don’t be afraid to maximize your time and product and use double cutting to your advantage. Trimming on the table is so antiquated and only as good as your trim job and even still, on a micro level your still guided by that straight edge’s edge which is not a 90° edge, still cannot compare to a mirrored dc seam. This goes for 99.9999999 percent of my installs no matter what material. Scalamadre, De Gourney, Gracie etc. and especially grasscloth… some butt fairly well but I still prefer dc.

This completes my .02

PJ strings

Bidding a small project, picture framed panels on perfectly smooth eggshell walls. Material is PJ string material 36”. 70% rayon, 30% linen, paper back.

My gut says line the walls to lock down seams. Panels are just a smidge under 9’wide by 6’h. Although I would dc but might not make the 3 panels per so I’m forced to butt.

Wondering if I clear shieldz the walls, would that help lock the seams preventing possible pull when dry? 880 is my go to.
