STEPS! An Apple Watch vs Oura ring question

Hiii! I have been wearing an Apple Watch for years, I will be straight up- I do not like wearing the watch to sleep literally ever. It’s incredibly uncomfortable to sleep in. I also don’t like wearing a watch most of the time aside from that, and I like to be able to wear a normal watch sometimes too.

I do like wearing the Apple Watch for fitness tracking though, it works great for that! Until it doesn’t. When I’m walking on my treadmill at my desk, my Apple watch never tracks my steps, it might as well think I’m dead for all the steps it counts. It’s actually ridiculous. And I walk on that treadmill a lot, working at the keyboard, watch on wrist, typing away. I’ll finish a 14km walk and it will think I’ve been asleep the entire time and I’ll end my walk with the Apple Watch saying “are you still working out?” -\_-

So I’ve been looking at Oura Ring for YEARS and wanting one. But was never able to justify it because I already have the watch (that I don’t like wearing lmao).

Here’s what I’d really love to know:

Does the Oura ring count steps on a treadmill when your arms are NOT swinging by your side? Because Apple Watch doesn’t. It needs the momentum of your arms swinging to keep count.

I’d buy Oura ring for that alone tbh. But I’m also very excited for all the other things it tracks! I’m a woman and the fertility/cycle tracking interests me too! (Please share experiences if you have them!)

Thank you in advance for helping confirm my expensive purchase and have a fitness tracker I can sleep in (and hopefully won’t think I’m dead when I’ve walked 14km).
