Remington Model 700 wild cat barrel.

Remington Model 700 wild cat barrel.

So today I went and picked up a gun I won at an estate auction. It was originally listed as a .270 win, then when I went to pick it up it was listed as a .223 WSSM. HOWEVER it was neither, who ever owned this gun last was a wild cat loader and had this barrel custom made in the 90’s for 22-6mm. This is a David Tubb custom barrel and I’m planning on taking it off and replacing it with a Criterion 7mm-08 barrel. What should I do with this barrel on this gun? I wouldn’t mind selling it because I don’t wild cat but if it’s not worth selling because of its age my dad said he’s gunna use it in the barn as a bottle jack handle /s.

The Gun-tainer is continuing to evolve.

Today me and my dad built a holder for the chrono, this chrono has a 15ft data cable that I feed into the gun port and it plugs into a remote display where I can see my velo from inside the container. I can still shoot at my 200 yrs target without striking the holder, but I’d only be using the chrono on the 100yrd target.

I might have too many die sets.

My dad had his Type 06 FFL so he used to reload ammo to sell at gun shows (9mm, 45 ACP, 40sw, 38, 357, and 223) with a Dillon 1050 progressive with an auto drive, bullet feeder, and case feeder.

30cal Berger 200.20 hybrid 30-06 load data

I’m looking for Berger load data for 30-06 shooting a 200.20g hybrid bullet but I don’t have a Berger book and it doesn’t look like Berger publishes all of their load data online. I can only find PDF’s for 180g bullets

We added the shooting bench and gun port last night

I posted last week about setting up a reloading shack in a sea container and last night me and my dad built the first burm at 100yrds, set up the shooting bench, and cut the gun port so I can shoot my test loads straight from the container in the AC/heater. We’re gunna be setting up two more burms and target stands at 200 and 400yrds, if I need any longer range targets my parents live on 640acre so I can set up pretty much anywhere if I want past 800yrds.

The rifle in the picture is one of my dad’s first guns he bought, it’s a Remington 700 chambered in .243 that’s probably 3 years older than me (I’m 30). My dad shot so much with it when he first started learning to reload he shot the barrel out and needed new one, in classic redneck fashion he went to a gun smith and bought a barrel and put it on himself with a pipe wrench and a shop rag rather than just letting the gun smith do it. This gun has killed many a rabbit, coyote and a couple deer with said pipe wrench assembled barrel 😂.

Edit: I feel like I should add that this is a private range on private land so the only ones out here are me and my dad, no one is gunna just walk up on us. There are no kids here and when there are I’m not shooting or reloading. Yes I can see out of the hole just fine with a scope, yes I have burms behind my targets and our neighbor’s house is not down range plus he’s a literal mile away.

I inherited my dad’s reloading stuff from when he had his FFL and Ammo Manufacturing license.

He had all this set up in a small house in his back yard and just stopped everything about 12 years ago. I’ve been working over the last few months to turn a 28ft sea container into my reloading shack. Finally got it done last night a pumped out my first set of .204 ruger in it.
