My best friend of over 10 years ended our friendship.

It’s been a whole whole thing but yesterday we met up and she ended the friendship. We talked for a few hours, she told me she intended to end the relationship when we made the plan to see each other, but we talked for so long bc I was fighting to work on our friendship. It honestly got nasty at the end bc I felt fed up, hurt, and rejected. She wanted so badly to make it a mutual decision to ease her guilt but I made it clear that I would have fought for our friendship.

A lot of things contributed to the downfall of our friendship, but part of it was me going back to my faith. I grew up Catholic but lost my faith and only got back to it in the last couple of years. I was becoming more confident in sharing online about it which she told me was a red flag. She said she has a negative view towards all religion and she thinks I only believe in this now because I went through difficult and traumatic things and needed something.

Anyways. This is the third close friend I’ve lost in the last year. I feel so lost and hurt. I don’t want to be close with people who love abortion and disrespect Jesus anymore, but I still love these people. I still loved them for so many years. It was a constant worry and pain in my heart navigating this situation for a while now. But I’m just heartbroken. She texted me tonight:

“i wish things hadn't of ended the way they did last night, but i just wanted to say i love you and truly hope the best for you”

I don’t know if she knows how backhanded and cruel it feels to hear that. I’m never going to reply.

Does anyone have any experience with anything like this? Losing people because of your faith?
