in the studyindaudi portal do we get to know if an application is rejected or does it just stay "under review"

im halfway so no spoilers ok but when ed came and saw al's body in the portal while transmuting himself out of gluttonys stomach the body said he could only return with his own soul. in that case why doesnt al just transmute himself and go into the portal and and get his body and come back?
