Adam Hurrey’s first ever coffee…

… and he had TWO (!).

Three heaped teaspoons each (!!)

Nescafé Gold Blend (!!!)

Served with loaded potato skins (!!!!)

Usually an Ovaltinesman (!!!!!)

Absolutely extraordinary anecdote. Rare insight into the man. I don’t know what to make of it. Listen, fair play.

MHD confusion: why are World Cup directors actively choosing to cut to footage of ‘fans’ using their phones?

The depressing pervasiveness of phone-addiction aside, it’s such a strange creative choice. Surely these crowd pans work best when they show fans lost in the moment, communicating the emotional intensity of the occasion?

But most everyone they cut to is self-consciously performing fandom for the TV camera while at the same time filming themselves on their phones. And every minor celebrity is listlessly scrolling, apparently ignoring the match. It just makes the matchday experience look so… empty. It’s having a disproportionate impact on my World Cup enjoyment… artificial people having performative fun for fleeting social media clout.

Is there literally no-one paying attention to the match in the stadium they can cut to?
