Help with orchid rescue
Firstly, im a complete noob to orchids and plant care in general. My dad was an avid orchid grower but was recently diagnosed with dementia and has moved into care. During the mammoth task of clearing out his house, I found that sadly, it seems he has stopped caring for an entire greenhouse full a long time ago...most have died but I grabbed a couple to see if they could be saved.
Ive been lurking here for info and recently repotted these 3 into soaked orchid mix, trimming dead roots and now waiting to see if they will recover. I wasn't sure what to do with the leaves or stems however, some look eaten, do I leave them on or trim them also?
I feel totally out of my depth, among all the other emotions, but feel that saving even one would be a good way to process whats going on with dad. Ive put them in my bathroom out of direct sunlight and figured they could benifit from the intermittent misting from the shower. (I live in Tasmania if that helps and its winter here atm) Any other advice would be appreciated!
TIA
