About Your Third: PiMai

Hi! This is the first time I post ever please be nice I'm very nervous 🥺

So I've watched the first episode of Your Third, the new series about MaxNat, and from all the thai shows that I've been watching I can catch some things that the characters say. Am I wrong or do they refer as PiMai as "wife" every time? I don't know if there's thai people here or people who understands thai language/culture, but I've been having some doubts about the use of "wife" in BL for a few weeks now.

So at first, when I started watching BL, I thought that it was just a joke based on heteronormative roles and misoginy, and I was like, okay whatever. But then, knowing more about thai culture and language, I started to think that maybe the word "mia" (which I know that is like a casual? word for wife) might not be as gendered as what the subtitles lead it to be? I know that there's a more formal word (phra-ya, or something similar), which is the one that I think I've heard in Your Third.

My question then would be am i right, do they refer to PiMai as "wife" in the episode? And if they do, why? and does it have the same gendered connotation as in English or other western languages?

Thank you, and If I explained myself wrong or made any grammatical mistake, it's because English is not my first language, I apologize!
