TCL Q75H — Update to Final Firmware V47.21.40

This is the procedure I used to update my TCL Q75H from the original firmware V38.19.34 to V47.21.40.

My original firmware

When I purchased the soundbar, it was running:

V38.19.34

1. Update V38.19.34 to V40.19.34 using USB

I downloaded the Q75H firmware from TCL's website:

https://www.tcl.com/cz/cs/soundbar/q75h

I then performed the firmware update using a USB stick.

After the update, the soundbar was running:

V40.19.34

2. Factory reset the soundbar

After getting the soundbar onto V40.19.34, I performed a factory reset.

This appears to be an important part of the process.

3. Connect the Q75H to an iPad using AirPlay setup

After the factory reset, I went into the Wi-Fi settings on my iPad.

The soundbar appeared below the available networks as:

TCL Q75H

I selected TCL Q75H.

Rather than simply connecting the iPad to the soundbar's Wi-Fi, the iPad then started the AirPlay setup process.

The AirPlay setup allowed me to select my normal home Wi-Fi network and provide the Wi-Fi credentials to the soundbar.

The Q75H then connected to my home Wi-Fi.

4. Allow the soundbar to check for updates

Once the Q75H was connected to my home Wi-Fi, I opened the TCL Home app and connected to the soundbar.

The soundbar was then able to find the latest firmware update.

It downloaded and installed:

V47.21.40

↓

Connect Q75H to home Wi-Fi

Important distinction

The network name TCL Q75H is important.

In my experience, simply seeing a network such as TCL Soundbar-70BA.n does not necessarily start the AirPlay configuration process.

After updating to V40.19.34 and performing the factory reset, my iPad showed TCL Q75H in the Wi-Fi networks. Selecting it launched the AirPlay setup, allowing the soundbar to be connected to my normal Wi-Fi network.

This is the procedure that successfully took my Q75H all the way to V47.21.40.
