Decaf - from specialist roaster or not?

I've been thinking I need to buy a bag of decaf soon - and happened to see in the latest email from Moonwake a link to this: El Vergel Estate Decaf - Elias and Shady Bayter. Sounds tasty.

But I've also read a lot lately about Frequent, a decaf specialist. They get high recommendations. I'm not sure if they have the same coffee, I haven't checked yet - but let's imagine they do.

Part of me wonders if a roaster who does mostly decafs might potentially be "better" at it (relatively) since they specialize. However, I also know that Moonwake (for example) is known to be a great roaster.

So I'm wondering: those of you who purchase decaf, do you tend to go with a specialist/decaf-mostly roaster, or do you shop from mostly-caf roasters who offer one-off decafs?

Mecity kettle owners - question about temperature?

For any Mecity kettle users out there - have you noticed that when you switch from Hold to Regular mode, the temperature displayed on the kettle immediately drops 4-8 degrees?

When I'm making my coffee, it seems to me like once it reaches the final desired Hold temperature, the kettle never fires up between pours. And when I place it back on the stand, it shows a temperature usually very similar to what the Hold setting is.

But if I then turn it off of Hold mode, the displayed temperature drops as much as ten degrees instantaneously.

What I'm wondering is: which temperature is the real one? If it's telling me in Hold mode that the temp is 200 (which I asked for), but never heats up between pours, is it possible that it's still actually at 200 when I'm done? Or is this other temperature in fact the accurate one?

Not a huge deal obviously, but somewhat annoying. Now that I'm typing this I'm realizing I could use a thermometer to figure this out, but was just wondering if anyone else noticed the same thing. Other than this, I really like the kettle.....
