HELP. Do I need toric lenses?

I have a -1.00 Sphere and Cycle in both eyes. My axis is 170 on my right and 20 on my left. My contact lens prescription is -0.75.

I wore plano coloured contacts at a convention last year and was struggling a lot with headaches, reading, and being generally overstimulated. I didn’t have my prescription then for contacts, only glasses, because I was told that my prescription is relatively mild when I first got glasses in… 2021?

I got some daily toric lenses to try prescribed by an optician and they’re quite uncomfortable but I see well in them. I’m also on sertraline/zoloft which can make contact lenses uncomfortable. I didn’t mind the regular contacts and how they felt, I’ve just never had lenses with only the nearsightedness and not with the axis. I’m autistic and new things can be a bit of a nightmare, and coloured toric lenses are expensive. Hell, regular coloured contacts are expensive. I’m not quite sure how to proceed while protecting my vision and sanity but also my wallet. Thanks!

Is there a Janet Arnold Patterns of Fashion equivalent to Asian historical costumes?

Hello! I know Janet Arnold has a lot of patterns for European fashion throughout the ages, and a lot of historical costumers use her as a source. Is there an equivalent book that goes over Imperial Chinese court dress, particularly the Tang dynasty? I’m trying to find patterns and sources. If it’s in English, that’s ideal, but if it’s in Mandarin I may be able to flounder my way through the pattern with my general sewing knowledge. Thanks!

Fist to hip or fist to belt?

Hi! I have my yellow stripe, and I have been mostly taught by men. I’m non-binary but female so my body proportions are a bit different, and a lot of men wear their belts more on their hip bones where a men’s jean waistband would be vs their true waist. My belt is on my waist, about 2/3” higher. If I tie my belt tight enough, it digs into my floating ribs. Our belts are on very different parts of our bodies. I’ve had teachers in person and in YouTube videos use “hip or on your belt” interchangeably when you put your fist onto your waist. For some folks, “hip or on your belt” is in around the same spot. Not for me. Does it depend on the teacher? As someone who danced for almost two decades, I would assume that everyone’s angles being the same would be the most important, so fist goes to MY hip, below my belt. When we’re learning punches and blocks, teachers say in line with YOUR shoulder or YOUR eyes. But then with the fist is below the belt because it’s on my hip sometimes they say that it’s wrong? Someone help me out with this.

I have a run of the mill white ITF dobok that’s a poly/cotton blend. I also sew. How do I fancy it up? I’ve seen people add patches on shoulders and add appliqué on the back logo and stuff. I usually wash my dobok in cold water with other lights and whites to avoid dyes bleeding into it and losing its colour, but if I use black fabric for the appliqué, I’m scared it will bleed. Do I just pre wash the fabric and make sure it’s a similar fabric content to my dobok? Do I add a colour catcher like Shout as a precaution? Do I use 100% polyester black fabric to avoid it bleeding even more? Dye for polyester needs to be basically cooked into the fibers so it doesn’t bleed as much. Do I just let it air dry?

If this would be better in a different subreddit let me know. Sewing folks have experience with lots of fabrics and dyes, just not necessarily martial arts garments. I thought it would be best to ask here. Thanks!

Hellos! Not seeking advice on finding a dojang. I got my 9th Gup in ITF at the end of

March at my university, and my hometown is about 4/5 hrs away. I’m home for the summer because the economy does not warrant me staying in the city. Problem: there are no ITF schools in my city. The closest is two hours away, but, there is a Chang Hun tkd dojang. From what I can tell online, Chang Hun is the pen name of General Choi, so it’s technically/probably ITF, but there’s also multiple different strands of ITF (3 on Wikipedia)? My teacher at uni is an ITF international accredited teacher, referee, and judge. I don’t really want to take WT classes at home so that I don’t develop differing habits/techniques because my muscle memory is hard to shake out of. I also really like the symbolism and theory in ITF with sinewave and the pattern names and such. Is the Chang Hun close enough? I’m going to call the dojang later today and see what they think. If I don’t take classes, I’ll just be getting the TKD trekkers app and praying that I don’t lose my technique and endurance so I’m trying to figure out how to proceed. Thanks!
