Hanfu at the Ren Faire!
The Western lands are stranger than the old chronicles suggest. I arrived at a gathering they call a "Faire" — a word that sounds nothing like "market" yet somehow functions as one. The locals wear simple vestments and speak in vulgar tongues.
I sampled a beverage they name "beer." It is cold, bitter, and bubbles upon the tongue like medicine — yet they consume it with great joy. It lacks the dignity of tea, though it seems to serve a similar purpose.
Most curious — upon my approach, common Western folk have raised their hands and bowed before me. It seems even in the West they show reverence to the Great Ming Dynasty. I did not correct them, as bowing before a Mandarin is to bow before he Emperor. Who am I to rob the peasants of their unexpected piety?
I shall investigate further. For now, I bring back my observations... And a strange thirst.

Song Dynasty commoner clothing
I finished making the weiqun just in time for my camping trip.
Wearing with my tang ku since I wanted closed pant legs for camping!
Commoner hanfu is great for the outdoors.
Question
My boyfriend and I wish to dress up as king and queen for the ren faire and were originally just going to do basic ren faire Queen and king attire. Then I got to thinking about how I love how hanfus look and was thinking about maybe wearing a traditional hanfu and do a sort of empress look (probably just do my hair and makeup causal) would this be disrespectful and is there anything I should know if I decided to do this. I only wish to be educated even if it is a dumb question.
I am very unknowing about everything related to hanfus and if it’s okay for me to wear I will learn more before doing so.
TDLR: Is it okay for me to wear a hanfu for an empress look for the ren faire?

Where can I find a similar hanfu of Hong Lu’s ?
All I know it is a type called “Yandan” and that is all. Links would be appreciated
Help! Hanfu Sleeves so long
Hello!
I have purchased this Tang Dynasty Hanfu and is my first one. Link is below

Is this WAYY too long for sleeves? Im not sure how long it should be compared to normal clothing and if this is acceptable size, how do I tie it back so I can see hands?
Thanks everyone!
Is there a Janet Arnold Patterns of Fashion equivalent to Asian historical costumes?
Hello! I know Janet Arnold has a lot of patterns for European fashion throughout the ages, and a lot of historical costumers use her as a source. Is there an equivalent book that goes over Imperial Chinese court dress, particularly the Tang dynasty? I’m trying to find patterns and sources. If it’s in English, that’s ideal, but if it’s in Mandarin I may be able to flounder my way through the pattern with my general sewing knowledge. Thanks!

Many questions!!!
I have recently fallen in love with Tang Dynasty clothing, especially the high Tang qixiong ruqun style but I have several questions.
how do you pronounce the following terms? I have found very few videos of people saying them. -Qixiong -Ruqun -Daxiushan -Hezi -Pibo -Banbi
Is it appropriate for me, a strictly white person with no Chinese link, to participate? So long as I do it with as much research as I can find and wear them as properly as I can manage
Going off question 2, is it ok to make my own? My main hobby is historical costuming, and I have largely focused on cultures that I descend from, but I really want to branch out into others. There are so many beautiful things in human history I've never even approached creating! Is it ok to make these myself, or would it be more appropriate/respectful to purchase from a Chinese creator?
I would really appreciate any/all opinions!
Archery in Hanfu (Ming dynasty)
Been a while since I've done anything for my hanfu collection, so I thought I'd do the least and wear it in public again. The fit is inspired by a late Ming dynasty painting, which I've shared before. The main components include: 贴里 tieli (blue robe), 战裙 zhan qun (war skirt), 大帽 damao (large hat).
The bow I'm using is my new Alibow Ming Dashao, which was the bow of choice for the Northern border troops in the late Ming. I always try my best to arrange my outfit (and tools) to be time period appropriate within my limited budget.
Ideally when I go back to China, I'll purchase something more casual to do archery in, but for now I still really enjoy this outfit. Also doesn't help that the current state of US/China relations isn't great, so it's expensive asf to import anything.
Hat and war skirt are made by 捧日虎骑 and tieli is made by 空青汉服, all via taobao.

Need help to figure out all of the pieces
I'm planning to try sewing this outfit, but I have no idea how to start. I know this isn't 100% historically accurate, but perhaps someone could help me to find what these pieces are called and what dynasty they could resemble? And maybe even some sewing patterns? Thank you so much
what piece is this?
hello! sorry for yet another danmei id,,, i was wondering if anyone knows what the piece outlined in red is called (i’m assuming it is vest-like, as it does not appear to be connected to the inner layer with the sleeves), and whether it exists with the high collar or if that might be something i’ll have to sew on myself. additionally, if anyone knows where i could buy this piece or a similar one individually, that’ll be great too! thanks!!
Time Princess and Hanfu, Part 2
It's been 3 months since part 1 and since then I have gathered a few more sets. I'm debating on continuing this series because there are a lot more historical pieces of outfits that on the whole aren't historical, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
1: Tang Dynasty Hunter
2: Distant Emotions (Standalone Set)
3, 5: Gourmet Journey
4, 6, 7, 8: Moving Mountains
How should hanfu fit?
I'm getting into hanfu and wanted to know more about how it should fit.
For example, I saw online that the bottom of the hanfu should just brush the the top of your feet at most or just be slight above it. However in the picture above the hanfu stops at the models mid ankle.
Also I understand the sleeves are actually meant to go beyond your wrist so you can cover your hands, but if this is the case, how do you walk without the sleeves dropping down and appearing too long to a Western eye? Or how do you keep them up when doing things like writing or god forbid washing dishes?
In the third picture, the person appears to have the hanfu just be near the top of his feet and uses wraps to hold the sleeves, but I imagine this is more for archers than scholars or court officials
Help is appreciated 🙇♂️
