Diagnosis Difficulty

I recently went to Planned Parenthood to talk about birth control options and also see if I could get tested for PCOS (I have nearly all the symptoms). Everyone there was kind and professional, they addressed all my concerns and answered all my questions thoroughly.

I spoke with a woman who I believe is a nurse practitioner and she told me that since irregular periods are the necessary symptom of PCOS I would need to go off birth control completely for one month. I don’t mind doing this since my Nexplanon is half a year expired at this point, but now my concern is the Nexplanon reinsertion since I know it’s easiest to do a removal and insertion in the same procedure. I strongly prefer the next one in the same arm, but I guess I just don’t want complications with my arm tissue?

I was considering the non-hormonal IUD since I’m curious how my life would be off of hormonal intervention, but she said that the only thing they do there to treat PCOS is hormonal birth control. Luckily, they offer multiple methods for iud insertion pain management which is a relief, but after reading so many horror stories I still feel at a crossroads.

I was kind of hoping for a blood test or some imaging of my ovary that was diagnosed with a cyst two years ago and still causes me discomfort.. some sort of update or progress. Or if I don’t have PCOS, I’d like to know what is going on with my body. Maybe I’m just too hopeful; I know there’s not a lot to be done with PCOS but I’d like to know what lifestyle changes to implement based on my situation.

I’m also confused how PP will diagnose me based off my cycle if all I’ll do is tell them when my last period is. I’ll either have one or I won’t during that first month and I’ll have one or I won’t the second month. My entire menstruating life has been irregular like that. And I don’t know how my body will be after removing my 5.5 yr old Nexplanon. I could have 1 period per month for months! Idk!

Any wisdom and guidance is appreciated.
