I just bought a math book, but I’m not going to do math in college so I want to learn some university level math for fun, as well as languages and literature. How can I study faster or more efficiently? having no method was fine when the goal was easy and set by others: studying for a test. But now I study to master stuff while no one will grade me on it and therefore what I want is to study effectively, not just to pass a test but to master the subject

I just graduated from high school in Italy, got through all of calculus (limits, derivatives, integrals, distribution, etc) and I was wondering: how do I keep learning math while not doing it in university? I will study PPE and while there is some math in economics it’s obviously not the same thing.

I can be kind of a pussy sometimes: I can watch movies that are only mildly scary and stay awake all night. I also don’t know how to control my mind so now that i’ve read the thing about mirrors I will definitely look into one and see something scary that will hurt me a lot if I learn how to lucid dream.

I can be lazy sometimes, like today I played videogames a lot and read only a little, studied a little and wrote nothing at all: I want to learn how to make my brain want to study all the time. I’m already tricking myself into thinking my purpose is to learn everything or die trying, but it’s easier said than done.

I’ve recently read madame bovary and faust, by the two aforementioned authors, and what amazed me was the variety of their vocabulary and the sheer amount of topics they could talk about: goethe could literally talk about magic, alchemy on top of his “real” knowledge. I don’t have that kind of knowledge or vocabulary and I don’t know how to get there. I know Goethe was probably the last universal man of the world, and therefore any attempt to imitate him is doomed to fail, but I, too, want to write like him and talk about anything
