The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer is a fantastic book and I highly recommend it. I haven't read any of her other books yet but now I need to.
Another of the goth plants this year! My "goth garden" varieties include the tomatoes, purple basil, purple carrots, and purple cauliflower.
These "midnight snack" tomatoes start green, then black, then get a slight red tint. The tops always have a pretty bright red design where the tops were. The insides are pink and the taste is so sweet, not acidic!
What are you growing this year? If you are like me, what are you already excited to grow next year? 😅 (for me, a few that I want to do are Jack-in-the-Pulpit, maroon calendula, and some sort of night blooming flower).
Basil plant is flowering! Such beautiful, vibrant colors
Woke up to hazardous air quality in my town due to wildfire smoke, and it's expected to remain for several days. What herbs assist with lung health and air pollution? I have mullein for husband's asthma, but wasn't sure if it applies in cases like this too.
I have watery eyes and an intense headache waking up this morning to the intense smoke smell, meaning even inside with an air filter isn't a complete escape. I really want to give my body all the herbal help I can in the meantime.
Found them all in the same forest in northern Minnesota
I am so happy with my garden this year! Zone 4. As much as I yearn for a huge garden plot and acres of forest to tend to, starting with what I have is super helpful. Very new to this so I have been learning and experimenting quite a bit. If anyone is like me and does not have a yard (but wants to garden) I highly recommend to just start planting and playing anyways. Gardening is delightful, calming, fulfilling, amazing... I could go on and on.
I have a few veggies, plenty of herbs, and a couple of native flowers to hopefully give local species a mini haven in the city.
Do you grow from an apartment? What are you most excited for this year? What are some things you've learned along the way?
